Rearend in a 1970 Chevy Impala?

Can anyone tell me the factory rearend in a 70 impala.

gear ratio?

10 bolt, 12 bolt, or other...

did they have C-Clips or not?

and how can your prevent c-clips from breaking and losing an axle.??

i was going to derby this car... i'm a mopar guy .. so i was wondering once i welded my posi in and got on either mud or hard surface if it was gonna fall out... do you know what kind of gear ratio the 10 bolt had in it?

I'm takin it was common for 273 gears to be in them?

    Cannot tell you the ratio-depends upon: 1-engine, 2-trans., and,3- sometimes, what was laying around @ the time that certain chassis was built.

    Normally, it would have a 10-bolt 3rd member-BUT-see #'s 1-3 above.

    If it has a rear cover-it has c-clips-if NOT, then it doesn't.

    Nothing you can do to "prevent" c-clips from breaking, except change them out-HOWEVER- it isn't AT ALL common for them to break, unless a bearing fails.(although it DOES happen)

    I have never broken a c-clip and I have broken many rear ends
