Dog Breath!?

So my pup's got some narsty breath. Those "Yip-Yaps" seem to make it worse.

A friend suggested Greenies. Anyone else got tips, besides for brushing her teeth? Greenies work?

I completely agree. You dog needs a vet visit for dental cleaning because dogs bad breath is usually from plaque build up in their teeth. You may not be able to see it just by a frontal open mouth veiw...but if you spread his mouth to veiw the back teeth on the sides you will see the grundgy brown/tan plaque build up.

Depending on the size of the dogs, some greenies are not good. My sister is a vet tech, and absolutely forbids me to buy Greenies for my dog. I would steer away from those. Try puppermints.

If breath is nasty, a trip to the vet is the first thing. You may be looking at tooth decay, gum disease or the need for a routine cleaning. All dogs need their teeth cleaned periodically. This is the number one cause of stinky breath.

Only after that, do the brushing, mints, sprays and such help.

  • In my experience bad breath = lack of suitable bones to clean them! A pup shouldn't have rotten teeth but can get a slimy build up on their teeth, depending on the size of your pup you can try giving it RAW chicken wings, necks, legs, lamb shanks, ox tails etc & again, depending on the size of your dog, give one a day for breaky for the rest of it's life & provided it's the correct size bone for a daily feed, your dog should have healthy teeth for life. I then give my dogs a raw mixture for nighttime - raw feeding explained here - http://www.rawmeatybones.com/

EDIT - re greenies, they don't seem to be as good as bones in cleaning your dogs teeth & dogs would benefit more from raw bones so I wouldn't bother.

I would stay away from those grennies because they sometimes really hurt dogs teeth. I suggest you should go to the vet and tell them about it. I suggest puppermints
