The differences between the high-end LCDs are minimal, but to me Sony has the best overall quality. The main competing sets are Samsung (which is rated very highly, but has a glossy screen that reflects room light) LG (not quite as good a picture as the Sony and Sharp Aquos (has brightness uniformity problems)
Sony has the best "smooth motion" 120Hz processing, if that is important to you.
Consumer reports consistently rates Sony as one of the more reliable TV brands, and their customer support is good.
Whether that is worth the extra cost, is up to you.

When you buy a Sony product, you're paying extra just for the Sony name. My cousin used to work at an electronics depot, and he said the ones that came back as returns due to defects were mostly Toshiba's and Sony's. Sony has just been a trusted name in households for so long that people don't mind paying a bit extra for a Sony product. Get a middle-class brand like Samsung or LG, they last long and have excellent quality :)

I got a Magnavox LCD and within 4 months it stopped working. The best buy guy came out to my house 3 times and on the 3rd visit, he said "you can get a new tv".
He told us to get Samsung. He liked theirs the best.
But I ended up getting an LG, it's pretty nice. But I can't use my remote, the tv doesn't recognize it, or any other remote for that matter. That kind of stinks, but the picture is awesome.

sonys are nice, but definitely overpriced. i would recommend a middle ground company, like vizio. these kind of companies make affordable, high quality tvs that can appeal to lots of people. i would not buy a sony because you can get a lot more for you money at the same (if not better) quality. i probably wouldn't go with a no name (like trutech or kamano, just to name 2) because their tvs are ultra cheap, but lack in features and usually don't last long. they also have sketchy (at best) tech support. you can also buy a store brand tv (best buy's is insignia). these tvs are usually good quality and price, kind of like vizio. but really, is the price of a sony worth the shiny name?

Not that I know myself other than what I've seen, Samsung is pretty good. All the people that I know that are really into electronics said Samsungs are the best as well.

Ye it is the best LCD TV, no doubt, and i think too that it is overpriced, it costs more than wat you expect. But it is the best though.
