DO you still own any audio Cassettes?

Because i was in a Cab today and The cabbie had a Tape Deck and i was like, WOW! I dont think ild been in a car with a Tape deck in a VERY long Time. Do they even still release music on Cassette tape anymore or is it only CD and Digital Media?

Update:

For you guys holding onto Cassettes as collectors items,.. so you know, Audio Tape Deteriorates over time, and eventually all youll have is static or the audio will be VERY low.

I still have several tapes, several LP's too. I need the little felt piece on two tapes, "Sell My Soul" by Sylvester and my Kym Myselle tape. I need to find the mix tapes that I made when I was a DJ. I have an uncle with 8 track tapes, do you remember those?

You wouldn't believe how many audio cassettes I have. I've been a member of a music club since 1991, and it's been just the last 2-3 years that I've bought CDs from them (when they first started offering a choice. Now they just sell the CDs). I'd say I have close to between 500-900 (some still factory-wrapped from when I ordered them God knows when).

To really knock you over, I still have close to 1,000 VINYL recordings on 45 rpm (1 song per side) and 33 1/3 rpm (albums) from the early 1960's forward. =D

I have a Discman to listen to my CDs, a "walkman" to listen to my cassettes in private and a "boom box" radio to listen to them as well, and--last but not least--a stereo system with a turntable to listen to my vinyl records, a dual cassette to play/record cassettes at the same time (put the vinyl's music on a cassette, etc), and AM/FM radio.

  • I do help my Dad collect cassettes. He collects old radio shows from back during the 40s & 50s (some older) and baseball games live as they played. He's got lots of friends that collect these things too.

(I cruise Estate Sales and snatch up all non-commercial cassette tapes. We got the assasination of JFK, Dr King, the Moon Landing...all live from the radio that someone TAPED.)

They are old guys and don't have CD burners. And they can't handle CD players very well.

Not sure what to do with them. He has thousands.

I've actually got some copies here that I haven't sent to him yet. "Mail Call" from WWII with Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters!

If anyone has ANY earthly idea how I can save these things, PLEASE let me know. He's got LIVE Yankee, Dodgers, Boston, Cubs games from 1940... on friggin' cassette tapes.

So, it's not all commercial BS music on these things, a lot of it's history. They still make cassette tapes for sell, and we still buy 'em.

Today's music is no longer released on audio cassette tapes, but I still own a desktop sound system with built-in cassette decks. I'm still having quite a few audio cassette tapes.

I dunno if they still sell and release them that way or not.

I have an old case of cassette tapes but I haven't listened to one in over 10 years (maybe more) and they have since all been replaced by CDs in my collection. I know they can rot so they probably aren't even good anymore - I suppose I should look. lol

The only one I still have is a recording of my own teacher's performance (piano concerto) made quite a few years back. Dude makes me look like I can't even play, and I'm pretty good ;-)

I have always liked music and I have it on several different media with players for each:

    pure digital

    Cd's

    cassettes

    33 1/3 lp's

    45's

    78's

Media I ignored because I didn't think they would last:

    8 Track tapes

    mini-disc

    DCC

    DAT
