How do I stop my car alarm light from flashing while I am driving?

The light under the dash, continually flashes, while driving as if the alarm had been set off, or the same mode as it is in when the vehicle is locked.

Not so bad during the day, but at night it can be distracting. Any do it yourself fixes?

Update:

It is the light on the front of the alram, mounted below the dash.

There is a reset button on the back of it.

Update 2:

It flashes continuously.

Update 3:

Alarm automatically sets when you lock the car.

Can you set your alarm? If you can set your alarm and you open the door without using the clicker - does the alarm go off?

If the alarm goes off when the door is opened (w/o using clicker) then it is probably working okay.

If the alarm does not go off it is not setting and your alarm is useless! Some cars have a on-off switch, you may have bumped it in the off position. Try turning that switch on and see what happens. If you don't know where the switch is you may have to crawl around on your car floor looking to the sidewall and under dash area, drivers side. Usually the switch can be reached pretty easy but not be so noticeable at first glance.

When my alarm is set properly the light blinks when the door is shut and no one is inside.

Are you sure it is the alarm switch? Could it be a seatbelt switch? Or a door ajar switch?

If the alarm works properly you could put a small hood over it if it can't be adjusted down. You should be able to notice the light but not be blinded by it!

Take your car right away to a mechanic you can TRUST: unscrupulous ones will try to tell you you need major repairs. That light is there to warn you: if it is stuck in the "on" position you can't be warned by it when something is REALLY wrong....and i'd advise against trying to fix it yourself: the sensor systems in modern cars are pretty tricky to work with.
