The Time's has been getting away with treason for quite a while now.

Their timing is intended to bait President Bush before the coming election.

There has to be more to the story. How did the NY Times get details on a highly classified pentagon order? And hasn't the theory been for years that bin Laden is hiding our in the mountains of Pakistan?

I do wonder though, why do people feel that the independent reporting of news is un-American? Isn't a free press exactly the difference between America and non-democratic nations? Do we want to be a nation where the press is a tool of the government? Isn't that what happened in Saddam's Iraq?

They think that the story has news value and that the news value outweighs any concerns related to national security. While the other posters are correct that the NYT has a liberal reputation, it's generally accepted that the bias is in the opinion section, which makes sense, since New York is an extremely liberal city. The news room at the NYT, which would run a story like this, (rather than the op-ed board) has a journalistic reputation that is second to none.

At any rate, they definitely don't take orders from the president regarding what to publish. Nor should they.

The New York Times is a very Liberal news paper and they would love to see America hit by terrorism again. They probably want to give bin-Laden a weekly pay check simply because they are terrorist lovers. What the NYT is doing is treason.

It is not up to newspapers to do the government's job of keeping things secret. You have to figure that if a Time reporter was able to find out about this, then bin Laden also knew about it.

Assuming the information is valid and they actually do have a classified document detailing this event, they probably are doing it to get ratings, sell papers and inform the public.

because the NY Times hates america and americans. they're elitist pigs that think the rest of us are worthless scumbag peasants.
