can an old ankle fracture show on a new x-ray?

i went over on my ankle 4 days ago and had to go back to hospital today for an x-ray, the doctor has told me a fracture has shown on x-ray but this could be an old one. but the last time i fractured my ankle was 9 years ago would this still show on x-ray?

    ya they can tell roughly how long ago it was broken somehow bc of how it has healed.. they did it for me

    yes that's how they generally tell if you have a stress fracture/hairline fracture is through it's healing. Most stress fractures don't show until 3 weeks after they have started healing so yes an old fracture would show up, and the doctors should be able to tell the difference between an old fracture and a fresh break,

    Well I know that in abuse cases especially in children, doctors can see prior breaks. So I am assuming that you will be able to see it.

    They will be able to see prior breaks, but they will be able to tell that it is an old break.
