Why are we taxed to death in the U.S?
We have federal and state income taxes, social, security, and medicare from our paychecks. Then we pay property taxes, sales taxes, junk food taxes. There is a tax on about everything we buy in addition to what uncle sam takes from our check. I'm all for paying my fair share but when is enough...enough?

Because "We The People" have forgotten that the Government works for us! It's our own fault and it's up to us to change it.
When was the last time you were ask to "Vote" on their pay raises or had a say in how much they make?
When was the last time you were ask "How and Where" the tax dollars should be spent?
When was the last time you were ask "Should we take care of our own homeless and hungry" before we sent "OUR TAX DOLLARS" to some 3rd world country instead of doing something here at home?
When was the last time you were ask " Shoud we mind our own business and let the other countries work out their own problems?
I could do this for hours! It's time to take "Our Country" back. They (Washington) are not going to do a thing to make things better for us because it doesn't benefit them. Wake up America and step up to the plate! We need a ten million person march to "OUR" White House and say "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH and take our Country back!

Taxes are needed to fund the military, Pay for schools, Pay for social security benefits for the elderly, Repair roads ect.
Right now we are trillions in debt so appearently some of us are not taxed enough. The rich repuplicans want thier war but don't want to pay for it. Thats why the top 1% of this country get the largest tax cuts.

It's quite simply actually, at the Federal level there are numerous programs that are not specifically authorized by the Constitution that waste BILLIONS of tax dollars every year. I suspect the same is true at the State levels as well. People keep demanding that Government do more and more for them and fail to realize that this empowers Government to take more and more of your hard earned money.
Solution, immediately repeal each and every program not SPECIFICALLY authorized within the Constitution, do away for the power of congress to assess new fees or taxes and ensure no new programs can be started without a direct vote of the people.

Land of the Free my *** Land of the Taxes is more like it. This is why liberals need to die. I'll give a quarter to the first person who puts a liberal in a burn center instead of actually killing them. Make them suffer first they deserve it.

It is far worse than you have outlined.
Taxes are not what we send the government - taxes are what the government spends.
The past 7+ years have been the worst spending spree in history. Check the increase in national debt since Bush took office (google national debt) - the numbers will make you cry.

I think everybody is getting to that point in the United States. I have heard that most of Europe is taxed even more. I wonder what they actually pay....

We (the middle class) is so overtaxed because the poor have no money to pay and the rich bribe the politicians so they don't have to pay (due to tax credits, loppholes, tax cuts, etc.).
It happens in many countries. much like Rome, where the middle class became so overtaxed, the country collapsed.
Until everyone pys their fair share, the middle class will get screwed.

Cute.
Why don't you go live in Sweden or anywhere in the Western Europe for a while to see what "taxed to death" REALLY means?
That said, with political systems that are sort of fool-proof (as in, a fool like Dumbya and his Dick could never make it to the top), their standard of living is far superior to that of the U.S. because of such taxes and their wise distribution; it is wildly far too complex for Americans, focused on the most complex thought they can come up with, "I want all the money I earn" to even comprehend how that works. Naturally, since less than 1% of Americans have a clue about how it is to live in a really high standard country, there is no base for comparison and poor American isolationist babies think they're taxed to death by the small cut they pay, and they still whine, incapable of getting how the health insurance, for example, even works.

quality of life issue is mute.
you can't compare a nation of our size to smaller countries.
they don't have defense, budgets great science projects
like space. most of these countries are homogeneous.
for does in Rio Linda. it's one culture.
they are all socialist government.
the problem is when more then 50% are collecting hands out
they voting the party {democrats } in power.
then watch your taxes go up.
