if i were to go into labor?

if i were to go into labor at anywheres from 34 to 35 weeks what do you think would happen? how long do you think the baby would have to be in the hospital? i went into labor at 34 weeks a couple of days ago and they were able to stop it. they sent me home on complete bed rest, but i am so scared that i might go into labor again. do you think they would stop it a second time or just let the baby be born? if the allow the baby to be born how long would she have to stay in the hospital if she is born with no difficulties? i know no one on here can give me exact answers, but just tell me what you would think?

Well, anytime after 25 weeks the baby is viable, meaning there's a better chance it will survive. At 34 weeks, the baby is pretty well formed. I had my twins at 34 weeks. They had a few problems at birth.. staying in the hospital for 12 and 13 days..... not as long as I thought they'd be but it was horrible sad leaving the hospital without them.

So, do your best to rest but dont flip out if they cant stop your premature labor. Things should be ok. I think they'd try to stop it at least until you are 36-37 weeks... unless your water breaks then they have to deliver the baby.

Going Into Labor At 34 Weeks

  • 1 decade ago

I did go into labor at 34 weeks and had a perfect little baby boy. The best thing is put your feet up as much as possible and relax - yeah I know kinda hard when you are that far along.

If you do go into labor and they can not stop it, they will make sure that a special team of doctors and nurses are ready for the baby who will make sure he can breathe and its heartbeat is good and strong.

My little boy stayed at a wonderful hospital for 2 (very long) weeks with wonderful nurses and is now a crazy, very active, always going boy of 6.

Hope you make it all the way and if not, your baby and you will make it through!

At 34 weeks, very little intervention is usually needed for babies. Some require just oxygen and weight gainer, along with an incubator and quiet enviroment. Others need more intervention. Babies can usually go home when they reach atleast 5 pounds, can breathe properly on thier own, and can keep thier own body temperature.

    It is very case specific.

What the doctors might do for you would be determined by your progress...how much had you dialated? Is the baby in distress? Is the MOMMY in distress? Depending on the circumstances, sometimes labor is stopped, and sometimes the baby must be born early.

Just try your best to keep that baby in. REST! Drink plenty of water. Relax! And eat plenty of protiens...

I was told that they'll just let it go if you go into labor from as early as a month before your due date and the baby will be fine. A little earlier than that might be okay - it'll just depend on how developed the baby is. The longer it can stay in your womb the better but sometimes they're just in a hurry to get out and see the world. :) Good luck and congrat's! I'm sure everything will turn out fine.

My baby was born at 35 weeks with minimal complications. He stayed in the NICU for 9 days, as his weight was only 4lb 12 oz when he was born and then lost a few ounces the first few days.

If born early the doctors and nurses will monitor:

    1) weight

    2) how he/she is feeding

    3) how he/she is regulating her body temperature

    4) jaundice

If I had another baby again at 35 weeks I would have absolutely no worries about it......the doctors and nurses are very experienced with preemies these days! Good luck with everything! :)

My friends baby was born at 32 weeks. He weighed almost 3 pounds. My other friend went into labor at 37 weeks and the baby weighed 7 pounds. I'd say you baby would weigh four to five pounds and would probably visit the NICU for a few days, bbut if no problems arose he may be able to go home within the week.

My son was born at 34 weeks. He was okay, he had jaundice and only weighed 4lbs. 8oz. He was in the hospital for about 2 weeks only because they have to be 5lbs. to be able to come home. Just try to relax as much as possible. When they say bed rest, take advantage of it as you won't get much sleep once he is here. I just had a little girl 2 weeks ago and I think I have slept all of 3 hours a night since she has been home. lol.

Good luck to you and your new little one!

well.... it just depends on how developed she is. IF she comes out breathing and eating on her own.... then she will probably be able to come home right away. If she needs a little help... it could be anywhere from a few days to weeks. Don't stress yourself out about it.... just relax and stay calm. I am sure she will be just fine.
