I'd like to see a vampire novel that really explores their true myths.

    A true horror story.

Imagine...your father or mother has just died. You are in mourning. You then get news from the local constable that someone has desicrated their grave.

Later bodies start turning up...mutilated and drained of blood and lacking vital organs.

It is discovered that a particularly powerful demon has taken over the body of your dead relative and is using it to commit horrible acts of violence and murder.

You petition the Church for help, but they will not listen...You call the police and you are the one they now suspect of being the 'spree killer'.

You finally find an old priest that believes you and, ala the exorcist, tracks down, finds the demon, destroys your relative's body and casts the demon out.

That is a real vampire myth...That's what many people still believe in some parts of the world.

I pretty much disagree with all these answers. Dracula has been the only good vampire novel written to date. Why?

    1. None of that sissy "tortured soul crap. Dracula accepted what he was and relished it. No regrets. No turning back.

    2. Intelligence. I see a serious lack of this(stupid Rice). Dracula showed the ability to learn and adapt so far as to plan for an area completely foreign to him.

    3. Violence. It is just their nature. You can include sex with this too.

    4. Opponent. The "hero" should be worthy of the creature he/she is fighting. Intelligent and capable.

    5. A clear objective for the vampire. What is he doing and why?

I could go on, but you get the idea. I am just so sick of the lame tortured soul vampire. He should make the choice of his own accord and be able to fully show his nature.

Well of course it would have to be about vampires.

The vampire would have to play a huge role in the story.

It couldn't be too cheesy, but it wouldn't really have to be scary.

The moment any of the vampires turned into bats is when I would put the book down and never pick it up.

But I do think it should stick to some of the basic vampire stereotypes.

    =D.

Seraphina is right. That whole tortured soul thing is required for a good classic style vampire novel. As are lust and blood and so forth.

***I do however see DRAGON's point. Dracula is the best and always will be. Prehaps "classic" was the wrong term. I should have used something like "modern." Thanks for pointing that out.

***BRAVO MrM! Agreed. I wouldn't be able to put it down.

I would expect a vamp named Edward Cullen to be Bella Swan's savior.
