I'm trying to load Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Desktop Edition but I don't know whether to get the 64 or 32 bit edition based on what my computer can handle. I would like to have the 64 bit edition and I have a Core 2 Duo processor on my Laptop. Now I want the aero features that are similar to Vista on my Ubuntu configuration. Please help!

With all due respect to the first answer, dual core does not in itself provide 64-bit OS support. You'll need to know the CPU # sequence of the processor. This should have been provided in the details of the original order from Dell.
If the processor is:
L7000,T7000, U7000, or T5000, then YES, the CPU supports 64 bit OS.
However, if it is:
T2000 or U2000, then NO - you can only use 32 bit OS

the 32-bit version is for computers with single core processors and the 64-bit for dual core. so go with the 64-bit, you should have no problems
