Why a top law school?

Other than prestige, why should a person who wants to ultimately start their own firm with a spouse apply to top schools that will probably not give them a full ride as opposed to some lower-group schools that definitely will?

Why should I go into debt when I could get paid to go to law school (full tuition plus stipend) at a variety of schools that might not be as well recognized?

Well, in the opinion of others, all that matters is your degree (that you have one) and that you are a good lawyer. The most prestigious school can sometimes churn out crappy lawyers and the less known schools can send out great lawyers! So whoever is telling you to go to Harvard instead of UCLA (cheaper for residents) is full of crap.
