Here are a few links that might help you forth with.
and AVG 8
or Kaspersky for some anti-virus software if you don't have any.
xp cleaner is usually installed by clicking the pop-up bar at the top of an IE window. That installs the active x control that's causing your pop-ups.
Try
start menu; Programs; accessories;
System tools; Internet explorer NO add-ons. that runs IE with no active x controls and should give you a rest to download the tools to get rid of it.
hope this helps

XPCleaner is a misleading applications that may report false problems on your computer
Symantic write up here:
http://www.symantec.com/security_response/writeup....
Then go to same website tab REMOVAL instructions.
In the removal instructions it tells you to run their anti-virus definitions.
I recomment AVAST, and keep it going afterward on yor comptuer. Get it here:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.ht...
AND just for grins and giggles, I would definately do a System Restore back to a point before this program came onboard.
Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore >
select a date prior to the problem.

Notes Re: AVAST vs. others
And please do a "thorough" scan as soon as you get it downloaded. The user interface is simple. Click the left side, and in the top menu that comes up, select thorough scan.
When it finds a culprit it throws up an alarm, then you DELETE the culprit, (do not quaranteen).
Then allow it to run all of the time, and you will be completely protected. It will "automatically" update itself, also for free.
You only need to renew your registration once a year, also free.
I KNOW of several people who have used AVG and gotten a virus anyway.
Don't go with Zone Alarm as it is hoggy and conflicting.
I've tried them all, and have had wonderful results with DEPENDABLE AVAST for the last 5 years.
The corporation I work for uses the Pro version, and has never has an incident. Avast is your answer.
