Non-Americans: Was the TV show "The Beverly Hillbillies" shown in your country?

The Beverly Hillbillies was a popular 1960's American TV show about a family of poor backwoods hillbillies who became instantly rich when oil was discovered on their land. They moved to Beverly Hills, California, and encountered many comic situations. It's a classic of American television. Was it shown in your country? What country? Was it dubbed or in English? Did people "get it", understand the humor?

The black and white episodes were the best in my opinion.

Sure was/is. We still get the reruns here in OZ and I love em. I always wished I could be friends with people as naive but lovable are they were. No need for dubbing of course and even tho hillbillies is a uniquely american thing we do "get it"

Its a pity isnt it that america (and most of the world) think that to be happy you need to be rich.

The Beverly Hillbillies was a contradiction where they were depicted as totally untouched by their riches and happy but at the same time 'society' as represented by Mr Drysdale saw their money as the source of happiness. Their antics were funny tho.

Unfortunately Mr Drysdale's attitude is the one that modern society lives by.

Jed and all his kin could only exist on TV not in the 'real' world

Yes. I am in England and it was shown here. It used to be one of our favourites.

And yes, we did "get it" - English humour is not so different from American humour after all.

Mind you I gave up TV over 20 years ago so I don't know if it's been shown recently on the cable channels but it is possible as they seem to show a lot of the popular old series on there.

I'm a US citizen, but I agree about the black and white episodes being better. Same with that other show about lovable rustics, Mayberry. I think both of these shows had jumped the shark by the time they went to color.

It (the reruns) used to be on every weekday at 6:30 am and I would watch it while I got ready haha..
