How long is strep throat contagious?
I was diagnosed today with strep throat and was given amoxicillin to take 3 times a day. How long until I am no longer contagious and can kiss without him catching it? Thanks.

Contagion is no longer an issue after the fever has been gone for 24 hours and there is no puss in the throat. This is the reason most schools will not let a child with an infection return to class until the fever is gone, without help of fever reducers, for 24 hours. I hope this helps.

Our school will not let the students come back until they have been on antibiotics for atleast 24 hours, 2 weeks ago my daughter came down with it and they did a culture and it took 2 days, well the dr didn't think it was strep so I sent her to school those 2 days and the test came back positive, they had to send notes home saying it was going around and the whole 9 yards.

24 hours is the standard for letting children return to school, but strep is such a nasty bug that I agree 48 hours is your safest bet. Feel better!

Confirmed, though most doctors will tell you it is 24 hours after you have been on anti-biotic therapy you can play it safe and wait 48.
