Favorite movie before 80's?

any movie in the past that was released before the 80's

1980< lol sorry just had to get that point across

Mine has to be Citizen Kane and One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest

reason I'm asking is because most of the disscussions I have with peers (16-19) seem to only enjoy movies made in my generation.. I dont blame them but there are some serious classics that seem to ignore or are too simple minded to get the context of the movie

Here are some of my favorites, and most people consider them "must-see" classics. They're brilliant AND entertaining!

Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope

Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid

Close Encounters of the Third Kind

    Seven Brides for Seven Brothers

    The Thing From Another World

The Day the Earth Stood Still

    The Miracle Worker (1962)

    2001: A Space Odyssey

    The Birdman of Alcatraz

    Rebel Without a Cause

    Inherit the Wind (1960)

    The Magnificent Seven

    Romeo & Juliet (1968)

    An American in Paris

    To Kill a Mockingbird

    Children of Paradise

    Gone With the Wind

    The Haunting (1963)

    Lawrence of Arabia

    The African Queen

    The Great Ziegfeld

    Singin' in the Rain

    King Kong (1933)

    The Wizard of Oz

    Some Like It Hot

    West Side Story

    The Good Earth

    Bonnie & Clyde

    The 400 Blows

    The Graduate

    The Innocents

    Little Big Man

    My Fair Lady

    Elmer Gantry

    The King & I

    Casablanca

    Repulsion

    La Strada

    The Sting

    Charade

    Ben-Hur

    Patton

    Jaws

    Gigi

James Bond~Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Diamonds Are Forever, Life and Let Die//I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Sean Connery fan!

Val Lewton films~Cat People, The Curse of the Cat People, I Walked With a Zombie, Bedlam, The Seventh Victim, The Leopard Man, Isle of the Dead, The Body Snatcher (1945)

Alfred Hitchcock films~Psycho, The Birds, Rear Window, Vertigo, North by Northwest, Marnie, Suspicion, Shadow of a Doubt, Strangers on a Train

I was born in 1951, so of course I love all of the films of the Fifties-Seventies. I also love films back to the beginning of moviemaking. "The Lost World" is wonderful! The effects hold up much better than you might expect, and they even have a feisty heroine in Bessie Love, a resilient actress who has appeared in such films as "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" (sort of making her a Bond lady!) and "Ragtime". My father was a second-generation film buff who raised me to love movies and to know about actors and actresses, even the obscure ones. I am so happy to hear that younger people can appreciate all of those amazing films made before they were born. What a waste to ignore these films because then you might not "discover" Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Clark Gable, Fredric March, Gene Kelly and so many others. Most never reach back far enough to appreciate William Powell, Jean Harlowe, Myrna Loy, Paul Muni, John Garfield and the other myriad stars that gave us so much to enjoy.

glad to see someone's openminded enough to consider a movie made before 2000. I was beginning to wonder if I was becoming a dinosaur.

    Anyway, some of my favorites...

    Chinatown

    The Lion in Winter

    Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

    Casablanca

    Maltese Falcon
