Do you have (or have you ever used) High Speed Internet by Satellite?

How well does it work? Any complaints? Which provider do you use?

Thanks!

Update:

Within the next year I plan to build a home in a rural area that has no other high speed internet option. Currently I work from home using a VPN connection -- does anyone know if a VPN will work with Satellite Internet?

If you REALLY want the specifics on satellite:

    www.dslreports.com

Most satellite companies are more or less the same, although Hughesnet seems to be adding 11-12,000 new customers per month, which slows everyone else down to a dial-up crawl.

Their promises don't mean crap either (as you'll see in the above link). I've had it for 4 years (I live in the country and don't have a choice). For basic internet I pay almost $70 a month for dial-up speeds.

Don't take MY word.....check out the above link. If you have a choice (cable) don't go with satellite! There are also other issues (weather). If a bird flies over your satellite and pees anywhere near it you'll lose your signal temporarily.

    sigh..

Source(s): I FORGOT: You're also limited (on the basic plan) to 200 megabytes of uploading/downloading per day. If you go over that limit your FAP'd out to almost nothing for 24 hours.
