How hooked is your wife/girlfriend to the Twilight series? Should I read them?

My wife was told to read the "Twilight" series by Stephenie Meyer from a female coworker. She has read all three books (Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse) and can't wait for the next one, which comes out next month, and the movie that comes out later this year. She has since spread this virus to all of her friends and it's pretty pathetic. So, have you gone through this as well? And if you have read the series, should I read it? I'm not into fantasy stuff, but I'll read anything that is well-written. Thanks for your answers!

I'm probably going to get flamed for saying this but I read the books simply because of all the hype. They are interesting to read but I don't think they are good literature. They are the literary equivalent of Pop-Music; and while Pop-Music is catchy it isn't necessarily well made. If you want something that is well written then I would look elsewhere.

I am an adult female, and a mom. I read science fiction and some fantasy as my preferred genre. I need to be honest here: These books are romance first, and fantasy/supernatural second. Before anyone jumps down my throat, don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed the books; they were like candy to me, tasty and devoured quickly, leaving me wanting more.

But as you are an adult male I honestly cannot say how you specifically will respond to them. The characters are well drawn, but I suspect I may be getting in touch with my inner teenage girl by enjoying them.

Well written? Hmmm. Captivating, evocative of place, with well drawn characters, yes, but there is a certain uneveness about the books. My suggestion: Read Twilight and decide for yourself. If you do not enjoy it, there is really no point in going further. If you like it, yay. If not, at least you score a few points with your wife!

I have been reading romance for five years and I didn't see anything remarkable or original in this series (paranormal romance is my favorite genre of romance, and trust me, I've seen a LOT better ones written for adults). The vocabulary is seriously dumbed down (makes it obvious that it is meant for younger audiences). I read it out of curiosity, because of all the hype. I thought it is an okay read, however, it hasn't even motivated me to read books 2 and 3 as I found it horribly predictable. I intend to read the last one to see how it is wrapped up.

If you don't mind mushy romance stories, go ahead, and read it, see what it is about. You will either like it, hate it or don't care at all. If you have read romance in the past and couldn't deal with it, I'd recommend that you steer clear from this one.

Source(s): And I don't intend to ever recommend it to my husband. ;)

I am totally hooked on the Twilight Series.

I just think they are amazing :]]

But, I don't think they are the best books that have ever been written because there not.

But if you think it would be cool to read about Vampires, Werewolf's, and Love.

Then sure you should read them then.

Also, I soo can not wait for the movie to come out December 12. It's so going to be awesome.

I was very skeptical about these books. I'm definitely not into fantasy books aside from Harry Potter so I didn't think I would like them. I bought the first one because a few of my friends said that I would like them. I read it and I was hooked. I immediately went out to buy the next two. I don't know what it is about them but they're almost addicting. They writing isn't the best I've ever seen but they're very good.

I read it and I am hooked.

Sure, the book could be better written and has some flaws but no one is perfect!

It's a gripping romance story and is really good.

I read it in less than a day because it was so exciting.

If you read it you will like it, :)

Personally I think about half the people who claim their mothers, boyfriends and fathers read them are not being honest. I simply cannot imagine a grown man sitting down and reading that crap. I have a 22 year old son who made it through one chapter and tossed. St. Lilith is correct. They are cliche, poorly written, loaded with potholes the size of black holes, and filled with stereotypical, badly written characters and pathetically ridiculous dialogue. Stinkers. Pax-C

well, i am a girl, so my wife isn't into it, hehe. but i am. it is definately a book written for the female reader...it gets pretty mushy at times. but there are some kinda actiony parts to it, and mortal peril, and, of course, vampires. (i am obsessed with vampires, and it hs nothing to do with twilight). as for the writing, i think it is pretty good. if you have read harry potter, the writing is definately better than that (i dont think that jk rowling is that good of a writer, even though i like hp). the writing is definately not as good as some of the greats, but it is pretty decent. but keep in mind, it is definately a girl book.

I read... I'm hooked... and waiting for the next book! You should try it... though it's in a girl's point of view... very romantic.
