Is it true that GT or general Technical score on the ASVAB is a direct IQ score?

It must be over 110 to begin to qualify for certain brainy fields

LOL... No, it is not a direct IQ score. It is a General Technical score. The GT score goes up to 130, the IQ score can go over 130.

I've known people that had lower than 90 on their GT, but they were not mentally retarded. It is just a score that helps the Army decide what jobs are best suited for you. If you have a low GT they are saying that you are not suited for technical jobs.

There are also classes that you can take that will help you improve you ASVAB test scores (to include the GT). There aren't exactly classes to improve your IQ, you are who you are.

The GT score is not a IQ score. The GT score allows them to assess your appitude in certain areas. A higher GT score would make it more favorable to get into certain fields like Medical. I know Food Service Specialist (cooks) can score low.....however I have yet to meet a cook with a 90 or below, and most are 110 and above.

No, because I have seen idiots score an average of 20 on the ASVAB, and they still had enough IQ to get through basic. Saddly

No, not direct correlation...I did score (130) on the US Army AFQT and my IQ is generally listed as (150). I was selected to be an "Artillery Surveyor" in the early (60's).
