Religious DEBATE about christianity!!!??? (all religions are welcome)?
Anyway, I just thought i'd throw this out there:
What exactly is the Holy Trinity? Is Jesus (pbuh) the Son of God or the Father? if he is the son of God, does that mean that there are two Gods, making it polytheistic? if you say that Jesus (pbuh) is God or the father, and he died for your sins, does that mean that God is dead? Also, when he was in Mary's womb, does that mean that there was nobody to take care of the universe?
PS: just wondering, and plz do not report
one more thing
if Jesus is the only son of god, why do Christians claim to be his children?
if you say he's the son god, does that means he has his power?
One more thing (sorry)
Why are there so many "branches" of Christianity? aren't Christians supposed to believe the same thing? Why is there the Catholic Bible and the Protestant Bible? Does that mean God has 2 opinions? Everyone knows that the Bible has been modified over the years, what can you say about that?

The Christians believe that Jesus, god and the holy spirit are three parts of the same unit. So it IS actually a monotheistic religion..
They do not believe god is dead, obviously.. They think that Jesus, who is only ONE part of the holy trinity, was sent to the earth and died to save us from our sins. Then he woke up from the dead, and travelled back to god in heaven.. According to them, he is still alive, and there with them. And someday, on judgment day, he'll come back and judge people, giving them access to either heaven or hell. (Though.. As far as I'm concerned, this interpretation depends quite a bit on which *branch* of Christianity one belongs to. =D)
When Jesus was in Mary's womb.. Hmmmm.. I guess they think *god* took care of the universe, then..? I mean... They pretty much think god has always existed, even though there was no Jesus at some point, so that would work out just fine...
Hope I helped..
I'm an atheist personally, but I used to be a christian once..
So I *think* I should know what I'm talking about. :-)
EDIT: When Christians claim to be god's children, they mean it in a totally different way... They mean that god and Jesus is the SAME being. In two different entities.. Jesus is god's flesh and blood, supposedly. They are ONE. As for the ordinary human beings... Christians think that they were CREATED by god, yeah.. But they are not the *same* as him. More like his kids.. If you get what I'm trying to say. :-)
EDIT 2: Roman Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy, Oriental Orthodoxy, Protestantism and Restorationism.. Those are the most common directions today. According to wiki, at least.
There are many reasons why people disagree. After all, the book they are following is close to 2000 years old.. Throughout history, people have started arguing about stuff about the religion. And NEW church societies have been founded. For instance that's what happened during the reformation. Heard about Martin Luther?
He is the reason why we today have protestants and not just catholics.. He was a catholic originally. But disagreed with many of their teachings, for instance the almisses and the possibility people had to "buy themselves free from sin".. If they were rich enough, that is. Therefore, long story short.. He was kicked out, left catholicism and started his own protestant church..
Stuff like that has happened many times throughout the history. And therefore, we have many different church societies today. It is mostly based on a disagreement.. And then, eventually, the societies evolve in different directions, so they become even less similar to each other.
ANOTHER REASON:
The other reason why there are different branches of Christianity is that sometimes a lot of people supposedly receive "salvation" at the very same time.. It becomes some sort of new "wave" of Christianity. Which makes the newly born-again Christians get together and start their own church. For instance: This is why we got the Pentecostal Church.
And the Bible.. Yeah.. It is constantly modified. Through different translations. Different editions. As the language changes, so does the book.. Some of the original meanings get lost because of that. One can only wonder what was *originally* written, 'ehhhhh? 2000 years ago, I mean.. ;-)
Did you know, at one point there was actually a meeting.. Where high-ranking christians (bishops and the likes, I assume..), got together and decided which parts *should* be part of the bible. And which parts should *not*. For instance, there is a Judas-evangelium that was never included. And a Maria-Magdalena one... See.. This is just one MORE reason why I'm an atheist.. XD

GEEEEZ.. That took me a whole lot of time to write.. I think I kind of *deserve* those 10 points now, don't I..?
*Hint, hint*..

First, there is no biblical basis for the trinity doctrine in ANY Bible. It's a false doctrine based on the fact that people don't grasp the concept of God.Nor do they read the Bible in context.Jesus is God-Father,Son, AND Holy Ghost. I will go one by one and explain how. Father-God in parental relationship over all mankind. He created everything/everybody, thus we are all his children(everybody).Son-He was the physical son of the virgin Mary conceived by the Holy Ghost.Jesus was thus 100%Divine/Human.Holy Ghost-God in Activity as Spirit. One must remember there is no such things as 2 or 3 Gods. It says in Gal.3:20 " God is one."God is not dead. If we are Christians we have his Spirit to reside in our hearts. When Jesus died.Just his physical body died. His spirit will live on in the believers til the 2nd coming of Christ.God is omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscience. So, God is everywhere all the time.Jesus' physical body was growing in Mary but by his spirit he ruled the universe. Please feel free to ask me via e-mail anything else!

hello....well first of all the trinity to some people can be very confusing....before anything exsisted there was the godhead or the trinity....that is why the bible say's when GOD started to create man he said let (US) make man in (OUR) own image....there is only ONE GOD consisting of 3 persons father/son/holyspirit...now understanding how the trinity works....there is NOT 3 god's in other words there are 3 ways GOD manifest him self to the world.....GOD THE FATHER/GOD THE SON/GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT...we know that in the old testament the jews call GOD there father and the spirit or GOD the holy spirit in the beginning the spirit hoovered over the face of the earth during creation....now when jesus showed up it made the trinity even more harder to understand but jesus says in john chapter 10 verse 30 i and the father are one.....GOD the father sent GOD the son to die for our sins that is why the bible says jesus who is GOD the son surrendered his will to GOD the father that is why jesus in the bible when he was speaking to people always says i come to do the will of the father.....and when jesus was about to leave the world he sais another would come after me reffering to GOD the holy spirit so the more you read the bible the more you will understand the trinity......

I've never lost a religious debate only because I can only offer my opinion rather than what I 'know' to be a fact. I accept the idea that I cannot prove anything and I can't exactly prove that any source of information (books, religious or scientific) can prove anything about the existence/non-existence of any god. I may lean toward the idea that evolution cancels out the Adam and Eve story, but I still can't say I know that Adam and Eve never existed. I wasn't there in the beginning so what do I know. I enjoy a religious debate but it's not about winning or losing to me. I just like the challenge.

lol.
The Trinity is the father, son and the holy ghost. Its an idiotic desperate attempt to justify worshipping anything other than their god so they don't feel like they're worshipping idols.
According to Christians, jesus is both the son and the father. Apparently they think its ok to worship human beings because that idea wasn't around until the middle ages.
Edit: There are so many branches of Christianity because the Christians can't even agree with each other on how to worship their god and seem to find nothing wrong with murdering, torturing, or behaving like children and creating a new club so they can exclude others that don't agree.

The Trinity can be compared to H2O
H20 can come in three forms:
water, ice, and a vapor
But it is all the same stuff, H20
God can come in three forms:
Human, holy spirit, and a god
But it is all God
So its not three seperate gods, its one god reincarnated in three forms
If you believe in the Trinity then Jesus could still control the universe inside Mary's womb, as he is still God
But many Christians dont believe in the trinity, so Jesus and God are two seperate beings in their mind

Hey, if you think that Jehovah, the father, and Jesus, the son of God are not part of trinity, but separated, everything become clear, right?
Actually here's evidence to proof whether trinity is actually a bible based belief:

I believe it's the Father, the son, and the holy spirit....
And I have a hard time believing the God sent himself down to be born as Jesus, Jesus was his son - not himself, but a part of him

God, the Godhead created everything
Jesus, God in human form that was sent to save us
Holy Spirit sent to comfort and guide us. (Gods spirit)
They are all three God.
