In the bible?

In Habbakah 3:3 it says God came from Tamen...what does Tamen mean...I know that God was always in the beginning...I was just wondering

It was shown to me today and I had never seen the word. Any references would be great.

Update:

I think my sunday school teacher just did that to make us think...

I know it is out of context....

    This was not a reference to where God originated because as you said, He always was. It is more like when you meet a friend at the mall and say "where did you come from?" The friend might say "I just came from the Gap" but that doesn't mean your friend was born at Gap. The word "Tamen" came from another word meaning "south" which came from another word which literally meant "right hand" and when the right hand is mentioned in reference to God it is usually a reference to His power or majesty which makes sense as the rest of the verse speaks of his glory and praise. Hope this helps.

    Tamen is a city as far as I know. Jesus was God incarnate, you must remember. Reread it w/ that in mind. It may make more sense to you. But be sure not to single a verse out. That take things out of context. Read a little before and after that verse. That way, you get what its really saying.

    I believe that it means God was visiting Tamen.

    Tamen is a region in Edom, the northern part of the Sinaitic peninsula. In other words God is represented as coming from Sinai, where he had appeared to Moses.

    And it's Habbakuk, one of the minor prophets.

    'God came from Teman, and the Holy One from Mount Paran. His glory covered the heavens, and the earth was full of his praise.' Hab: 3.3

    'Teman' means- 'South or South Lands.'

    It would appear to be a reference to God coming from the 'south' of Judiah, when leading Moses during the time of the Exodus.

    It could also be a place, namely the Garden of Eden.

    It is not a reference to God's origins, God always was. It seems to be partly a reference to Deuteronomu 33:2 part of Moses sermon the last monthe of his life.

    Deut 33:2

    2 He sai€d:

    "The LORD came from Sinai

    and dawned over them from Seir;

    he shone forth from Mount Paran.

    He came with [a] myriads of holy ones

    from the south, from his mountain slopes. [b]

    Perhaps... God showed a glimpse of his glory at Mt Sinai... and also Edom on a mountain Moses looked at the promised land form Jordan, Edom and then would die, looking forward to eventual great good God would do.

    Perhaps because Habakkuk is about to end as if standing on a high hill.. seeing the big picture of God will somehow accomplish good in spite of needing to call the evil Babylonians to take the Jews to exile for 70 years... perhaps the reference to mountains where God did things will help

    back to Amos, look how close this is to Deut 33:32

    3 God came from Teman,

    the Holy One from Mount Paran.

    Selah [b]

    His glory covered the heavens

    and his praise filled the earth.

    4 His splendor was like the sunrise;

    rays flashed from his hand,

    where his power was hidden.

    5 Plague went before him;

    pestilence followed his steps.

    My thought is that is talking about high places where GOd showed his glory, but I need to look into it

    And the end of Amos 3

    17 Though the fig tree does not bud

    and there are no grapes on the vines,

    though the olive crop fails

    and the fields produce no food,

    though there are no sheep in the pen

    and no cattle in the stalls,

    18 yet I will rejoice in the LORD,

    I will be joyful in God my Savior.

    19 The Sovereign LORD is my strength;

    he makes my feet like the feet of a deer,

    he enables me to go on the heights.
