Will it matter to you if people suffer economically as a result of high gas prices and bad home loans?

I wonder, assumming that you are well-off and comfortable as am I, if you will feel any compassion or desire to help those who are less fortunate than you are.

This is shaping up to be a lulu of a recession. I'm afraid to utter the D word, but D is certainly a distinct possibility.

The ultimate question that people are going to be asking themselves in November is "am I better off now than I was 8 years ago?"

Wanna buy an apple, mister?

Update:

Though not fully evolved, the consensus is that we are in a recession. The question is how deep will the recession be.

My question was will it matter to you if people suffer as a result of high gas prices and bad home loans.

In other words, do you really give a flyin' sh*t about the welfare of others?

Update 2:

Increasingly, I feel the same re enjoying the show.

I have enough for myself and my kids and grandkids.

Self-serving people who are also heartless and unconcerned even though many of them are only a couple of paychecks away from eating road kill will provide some amusement.

Funny how the right always answers that this isn't a defined recession, meaning something like 2 quarters of negative growth in the yada yada yada crap.

Sorry ask the guy on the street if he feels the rising fuels costs, the rising food costs, the rising foreclosures, credit crunch, losses on the stock market and 401K, the possibility of the banks folding, ask them if they think this isn't a recession.

I have compassion and donate to United Way. I drive a Honda Accord. I make an effort, but I am sick and tired of whiney Conservatives blaming everyone but themselves or their leaders for this pathetic economy.

If it does go to recession then your money will not be enough as inflation will make each dollar worth about $0.25. I lived through the last recession and it was the people that thought they had enough that were hit the hardest. They lost their jobs their money didn't go as far as they thought, they lost their homes.

I have never been rich or even middle class. I know how to work and labor jobs are more abundant than are many other jobs.

When it comes you will not have enough money but you will have to much to qualify for any aid and it will be you and your family living in your car.

We are in this together whether we want to be or not. If I have I share if I need I am slow to ask. And if all else fails you sure as hell won't want to be the one standing between me and feeding my family.

One persons single experience doesn't count for the country as a whole. The fact you are better off now than you were eight years ago is probably true especially for young people whos ee their earning power increase at a rapid rate as they go through the 20's and 30's.

The question you really have to ask, if could I have been better off over that period of time if certain entities in Washington hadn't screwed up the economy? Invariably the answer to the question is yes.

The economic problems will affect all of us. The decline in home prices affects homeowners and the problems in the stock market affect investors. The overall slowdown decreases the wealth, or the potential wealth, of almost everyone. Some people can afford to ride this out but they should not lack compassion for those who are struggling.

No, since most people should have known when they went in over their heads. A lot of people thought that the housing boom was going to go on for ever when that is not the case. Also, with a lot of people taking out interest only loans or other riskier loans to buy houses beyond their means, they set themselves up. The lenders should be held responsible also for allowing this to happen.

properly, of course you forgot the US stepped forward the oil fields in the midsection East so the tree huggers like Gore ought to fly their inner maximum jets, polute greater desirable than countless small city, and seem down their noses on absolutely everyone else. in case you opt to be sure what helps, what has a tree hugger performed to boot preserving the US from utilising the oil that God has blessed us with? Or what "advantages" have the midsection East been? ought to the US persist with their lead in giving to humanitarian motives, lady's rights, gay rights, equivalent medical care to all in the courts, sentences that includes whipping and putting, a thank you to handle the unfavorable, and their national well being courses?

America and Americans live on credit. What happens to personal accountability and financial common sense. I have no sympathy for those who don't know how to manage their spending. Who lease a Lexus while living on secretary's salary.

The price of gasoline is unfortunate, but I have no sympathy whatsoever for those who either tried to buy more house than they could afford or didn't read the contract they signed when entering into an agreement to make the biggest purchase of their lives. Caveat emptor.

High gas and food prices are certainly of concern to me for those who are barely getting by, but bad home loans has to be shared by the one who didn't, or can't, pay the mortgage - for whatever reason.

Well, by definition, this is not a recession.

You are doing well, and probably the people around you. I think this is a good example of media being able to control what you believe. You seem to believe what you hear on the news more than what you see with your own eyes and that is scary!

I am not saying that they economy hasnt taken a downturn, but we all need to get a grip. People are in panic mode and this country is on the verge of electing someone that they think will take care of them and fix all of their problems.

We need to keep working hard, and let the market work all of this out. It does a far better job of fixing itself than the govt does. This isnt the first economic downturn that we need to ride out and it wont be the last. Just hang tough like our predecessors did (for the most part)

ADD: Who says we are in a recession? What concensus?

ADD: I get sick and tired of people that say I am heartless. That is ridiculous. I am simply trying to ride this out as opposed to letting the govt screw it up worse than it is.
