What do you think of people that hang around work even on their day off?

I find it a bit annoying sometimes...I guess it depends where you work but I find it a bit weird that someone would hang out on their day off...thoughts?

They've not developed any hobbies or friendships outside of the office. A lot of that is due to being socially inept but some of it is because society praises work over leisure. Society is still centered around the old two parents, 2.5 kids, house in the suburbs where daddy goes into the city everyday to work. Never mind what the reality is.

Also, careerism/workaholism is still very dominant in this culture, despite the fact that the "yuppie" lifestyle is no longer trendy.

It seems like if you appear to have "too many hobbies" or have too much leisure time, then you're suspect. It's like some folks think all people are expected to sing for their supper their entire life, no matter how much their status changes. Personally, I think that's ridiculous. The way you live your life when you're a young parent of small children isn't the same as when the kids grow older and leave home.

Now that I'm an MAUWEN (Middle Aged Unmarried Woman Empty Nester), I enjoy my extra time and discretionary income very much... I indulge my hobbies, take and enjoy my full vacation time, and I don't go within a MILE of my job when it's my days off...and I don't feel the least bit guilty about it, either.
