Windows 98SE display very bad?

The power went of about a week ago and when my wife re-booted the computer, the dispaly was all off. It looks like the screen you get in "Safe Mode" with only 16 colors and very primitive graphics. I've tried re-setting the display settings but they will not change. I've tried updating the display driver but I am told the driver is the best one available. Any ideas? Thanks.

Update:

I've tried rebooting many times. I have also run all of anti-virus, spyware and adware programs I have. all come up empty but the display is still very bad.

Restart your PC again... And check it. It may have went in safe mode.

    2nd...

    * Right Click > Computer on Desktop or Start Menu > Go to Properties > Device Manager > And look for a yellow question mark > If you see one > Click on that device and choose trouble shoot this device... follow instructions... or Update Driver and make sure to tick search online for drivers. Reboot and check again. It should tell you if this devise is working properly. See if that helps.

XP will load prevalent video drivers which may well be seen interior the gadget supervisor under "exhibit adaptors" "drivers" , oftentimes, as a microsoft named motive force. whilst 98SE got here out your video card wasn't even being made so 98SE has no prevalent drivers for it.
