Solar Light Batteries?

Okay - I read all the other threads like this, but I still want to make sure what I was told is correct.

My solar lights use Ni-Cad rechargeable batteries, AA size.

I just left Walmart with a pack of rechargeable batteries - the guy there said I can use these, and that they are the same thing as the ones my lights came with.

Can someone assure me that it's okay to use these batteries instead of the nickel-cadmium batteries that came with my lights?

I replaced my solar light batteries last year. They had cheap-o Ni-Cd AA batteries that were something like 500mAH. I replaced them with AA Ni-MH 1000mAH, which means they'll last twice as long during the night. Any AA rechargeable should be safe and ok to use.

NiCD is nickel cadmium. those are harder to locate now as cadmium is poisonous and can leak into the ecosystem if the batteries are dumped. NiMH is Nickel metallic hydride and that they do no longer seem to be poisonous. you ought to use them is your image voltaic lighting fixtures fixtures and you do no longer would desire to purchase the rather extreme means ones (like 2300 mah) because of the fact the image voltaic cellular won't be able to totally can charge them in a single day. NiMH do no longer tend to do as many can charge/discharge cycles because of the fact the previous NiCD's. As others have stated attempt charging the batteries on a mains charger in case you could, to make certain in the event that they're ok.

My neighbor was moving and gave me a solar light and lo and behold what was inside but rechargeable batteries. It makes since because the solar panel is a recharger.

yep long as they are re-chargeable any AA will work... the ones that came with your light were just lower power MAH and thats why they always run down pretty fast... these new ones will stay on longer if there's plenty of daytime sunlight..

FYI you might charge them a full 12 hours 1st before putting them in the lights just so they are fully "conditioned"
