How do you know if you have a mental health issue????? I don't know what's wrong with me.?

To preface--It's just me and my son. I don't have any family or friends. Sometimes I'll goes days without talking with anyone. So I don't know if that's why I'm feeling this way.

I always feel "spaced out". It's really hard for me to concentrate on something. My mind is racing with thoughts.

I'm not sure, but I think when I'm talking to people that I'm stopping in the middle of the conversation and zoneing out. I'm not sure for how long though.

I can't even concentrate when I drive. You know that feeling when you drive somewhere and you get where you're going and you think, " I don't even remember driving here." Well it's like that for me almost all day.

It's not normally this bad, just this last couple of weeks.

I also have a really hard time making eye contact. I even try to make a conscience effort to look people in the eyes but I can't. Sometimes I can't even do it with my son.

I don't drink or do drugs. I'm not "slow" or anything, I have a 3.7 GPA right now.

I just read some of the other answers and if you weren't feeling bad before, listening to some of them would make you feel worse...

I know everyone just wants to get better on their own but seriously, speak to a 'good' GP. You might have to see more than one to get a good one who will listen.

I'm no doc and don't pretend to be but I suffered/suffering.. depression and general anxiety where my mind races constantly and I worry to extreme. I cant concentrate on anything or any one else because I'm so wrapped up in my own thoughts...maybe your like me?

I speak to a psychologist and finally agreed to take medication - Aropax. I can honestly say its helped, so please don't think your alone or there is no way to feel better...there is.

Go see your GP and get help - for your own sake and your son's.. Once you feel better you'll want to go out more and you'll meet new friends..

    Good luck...

Hi: The memory problems and inability to concentrate might be attention deficit disorder (ADD). In some cases, this might be related to eating too much sugar. Depression is also a possible diagnosis. Without knowing you, it is very hard to offer a diagnosis. Also, diagnosing a mental disorder is not a hard science. A few months ago, the New York Times reported that many people are now being diagnosed with bipolar disorder. In the past, they might have received a different diagnosis.

Remember I am not a mental health professional. I am just offering some tips that I found helpful. It might be best to see have a consultation with a psychologist or psychiatrist. Regular MDs usually do not have advanced training in mental health issues.

If some shrink suggests psychiatric drugs like antidepressants, my personal (non-professional) suggestion is to try psychotherapy and natural remedies first. These can include exercise, proper nutrition, avoiding sugar, and some kind of relaxation technique, like meditation or listening to music you like. Also, finding a support group or just some friends to talk about your problems with can be very useful.

There a lots of alternative health approaches to mental health. There are nutritionists, massage therapists, acupuncturists, herbalists, etc. I know people who have been helped by these kinds of therapies.

You can search for "mental health diagnosis" on google.com. However, it is much better to talk in person to a professional.

If you have a definite diagnosis and none of the natural remedies help, you might find it helpful to try a psychiatric medication. If you don't like it, you can always stop. However, with many of these drugs, you should taper off slowly. Ask your doctor about that. And don't forget, if your shrink is not helping, you always have the right to a 2nd opinion. Good luck!!!!!

Source(s): Source: I had long-term depression. My chief remedies were exercise, meditation or relaxation techniques, fairly good nutrition, a depression support group, and a little bit of antidepressant medication. For the last 10 years, I have no problem with depression.

Did you always have difficulty looking people in the eyes? (this is common with Asperger's syndrome: a high function disorder of the autistic spectrum).

Racing thoughts can be indicative of an anxiety state, depression (agitated variety), or bipolar disorder: there are quizzes for these via sections 6, 10, 2, and 1, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris Depending on the results, examine the relevant section.

Use daily, one of the relaxation methods in sections 2, 2.c, 2.i, or 11, whichever works best for you.

Take 4 Omega 3 fish oil supplements, daily: (certified free of mercury) it is best if consumed with an antioxidant, such as an orange, or grapefruit, or their FRESHLY SQUEEZED juice. If vitamin E is added, it should be certified as being 100% from natural sources, or it may be synthetic: avoid it. Also take a vitamin B complex which is certified as being 100% of natural origin; a deficiency in vitamin B9 (folic acid, or folate) is known to cause depression.

Around 30% - 40% of depressed people have low vitamin B12 levels. Depressed females using the contraceptive pill may benefit from vitamin B6 supplements. Anxiety can also result from low levels of these, and other vitamins, and minerals, so I suggest you have your blood levels checked.

Everything that you listed can be a symptom of depression. However, there's much more to it than that. This may simply be a passing state, in which case it's nothing. However, it seems to be bothering you. If it is I would suggest going to talk to a psychologist. He or she will be able to do a proper assessment and see if there really is anything there.

    All the best.

Your indications sound like an rigidity illness and doubtless Obsessive-Compulsive illness. you will desire to hunt for the advice and scientific care of a doctor/counselor. there is drugs to assist this. you may not help it. It would not advise something you're questioning is accessible. they are concepts that fluctuate into obsessions that set off extreme rigidity. I rather have some adventure with this style of situation. for example, some human beings - every time they bypass or concepts-set an open window or balcony, worry that they are going to throw themselves off of it. there is not any reason they are going to try this, they are basically afraid they are going to do it with none administration. good judgment would not come into play right here. drugs and counseling will help for confident. you may get references with the aid of your prevalent healthcare expert. it is normally disabling if not controlled.
