    1) A bit. He isn't in the pantheon with, say, Howlin' Wolf or Muddy Waters (and I'm sure he'd admit as much if you asked him)

    2) A pure tone and the ability to not "overplay" (he doesn't do a flashy riff for no reason. If he plays a lick, it advances the song..Musical economy is a great thing to understand and Clapton does.) "Lay Down Sally" is a good example of him combining a great melody, good playing, with no extra frills. It's just a really solid song.

    3) He has a tendency to record overly syrupy ballads at times. (See "Tears in Heaven")

    1) i suppose he is overrated, but he is also very very good and has been fortunate enough to be part of several very important bands. can you love an artist and still think they are overrated? well anyway, i love him and i think he is overrated.

    2) he has great taste in other people's music a real knowlege and love of all music and he has a sort of patience with his solos and an understanding of the power of negative space in a solo that many people simply dont get.

    3) he really isnt much of a writer. about half his stuff is covers. not that that is the worst thing, but in this generation where we value the musician who writes his own songs, some may knock him for that. but he was a great arranger when it came to interpretting other peoples music.

Is Eric Clapton over-rated? Hellz NO!!

Great guitarist, great voice in the Studio and live.

In terms of worst, for one, he plays the strat (jk)

its not his fault, but Layla is overplayed on the radio, maybe thats why some ppl may think he's over-rated.

There is NO chance Eric Clapton is overrated. First off, his best qualities are matched by none, and include his amazing guitar talents. Best songs include "Tears in Heaven", "Layla", "I Get Lost", and "Blue Eyes Blue". Worst qualities are only defined by Clapton haters. One of his less amazing works would be "I Shot the Sheriff". Clapton ROCKS!!!

    1)Not Hardly

2)He was with Derek and the Dominoes and Cream and a steady career solo. Layla, Crossroads, After Midnight, Sunshine of Your Love, Cocaine, Wonderful Tonight, and my personal favorite, Bell Bottomed Blues.

3)The only thing he did wrong was the Reptile Album.

    1) absolutely not

    2) he's the most versatile guitarist to ever live...he could play hard rock or shift back to the blues, there isn't anyone in history who could do justice to both...my top 5 from clapton overall is:

    1. layla(derek and the dominoes)

    2. tears in heaven(solo)

    3. wonderful tonight(solo)

    4. white room(cream)

    5. for your love(yardbirds)

    3) i think he shouldn't have practically quit writing songs...he eventually did some cheap duets(change the world with babyface) and cover albums which are never particularly impressive

    #1) a tiny bit

#2) his ability to improvise and write solos and riffs. also work with pedals (layla, white room, prescence of the lord)

#3) he spoke against immigration saying that england was becoming a black nation (he seemed to be drunk) in 1976. read about it here if you wish

    1) Nope

    2) Lay Down Sally

    3) What?

  • 1 decade ago

Of course not. And he hasn´t any worst songs

I have to say true. He's a good musician yes..but basing on his overall guitar ability, there are players now and even during his prime years who are/were better.
