I have Norton AntiVirus 2008 with Spyware and a guy I know told me that if i use Norton it would slow down my computer. Can anyone tell me if it will slow down my computer/make a difference with performance. My computer specs are:

It would be a great help.

Norton products are very resource intensive. If you have a lot of other resource intensive applications running alongside Norton, then the answer is "Yes". It can slow your computer down considerably since you indicate that you only have 768MB of RAM.
It's important to note that everything takes RAM. Not only security products (such as active anti-spyware, anti-virus and firewall) eat up memory but your operating system, active browser windows, running applications (such as Word, Gaming, Messenger, Photoshop, etc), graphic card, connected hardware that is actively running (eg: printers), etc all compete for system resources.
