What does best "hockey town" mean?
I see people ask all the time what is the best hockey town. It appears that most answer based on the success of an NHL team. I find this puzzling. Isn't hockey more than just the NHL? Also, does the success of a hodge podge of players from around the world moving to a city and winning indicate the dominance of that town in the sport?
To me the best "hockey" city is Saint Paul, Minnesota. They've sold out every pre-season, regular season, and play off game for the NHL's Wild. Also, they sell out their college hockey tournament every year. And the largest crowd to every see a game in the city was over 19,000 for a high school state tournament game between Hill Murray and Roseau. Also, most of the cities residents play the game.
The best NHL team is the Detroit Red Wings. Why? They won the cup, they are the Champions. Congrats to the Swedes relocated to Detroit.
The best NHL town is probably Toronto or Montreal.
Great histories and fans of both teams.

Ladies and Gentlemen, as the sports illustrated has said, St. Paul is the new official hockeytown. You let me know the next time a michigan high school hockey game is sold out and i'll think about it. Let me know the next time the joe is sold out for a whole season. DETROIT is not hockeytown. They have that name trademarked so you wont see that go away anytime soon but St.Paul, Minnesota is hockeytown. I have the pleasure of living in the third most hockeytown (second roseau,mn, first st. paul) White Bear Lake. You cant go in any school classroom and not have a hockey player in that room. So America, next time you hear Detroit call itself hockeytown, think of the real hockey town, St.Paul, Minnesota home of the best hockey arena in the world the Xcel Energy Center

I'd have to agree with you for St. Paul.. in the US anyways. If you want to include Canadian cities I think you're changing the whole question because they're not nearly as preoccupied with football and baseball the way a good majority of Americans are. I'd say Canadian cities are in a league of their own as far as 'hockey towns' are concerned.

roseau or warroad are hockey town.
St. paul is just bigger. 20,000 ppl going to a game in saint paul is like 0.1 percent of the population.
roseau has 1000 ppl at all their games thats like 108% of their town population for a high school game....
