Yo, describe you local ROCK radio stations in detail?

Tell me more about it...what eras do they play, artists, any specialities and stuff. Curious to know what rock radio stations are like everywhere

Update:

The one I listen to is mainly WEDG 103.3 Buffalo. Normally, they would play rock from the 90s and 00s like Metallica, Nirvana, Green Day, Disturbed, Linkin Park, Foo Fighters, Offspring, but none of those pop punk or indie stuff like Modest Mouse, Fall Out Boy, or Coldplay. They used to sometimes play old songs by GNR, AC/DC, and Ozzy, but for some strange reason, they've began to play even more from them as well as old songs from U2, Motley Crue, The Scorpions, The Cult, Van Halen, even Rush's Tom Sawyer. I believe it was because the classic rock station began playing too much Bon Jovi which annoyed some of those fellows and pushed them over to active rock format.

Also on one strange occasion, Jimi Hendrix's All Along the Watchtower was played...

Update 2:

I've also noticed that some stations may have extra HD radio stations that can be unlocked with an HD antenna or something.

Update 3:

Rocco G: Where is this in?

All of you need to tell me which city these stations are from so I have an idea you know...

Update 4:

ClaytonK: City plz!!

Update 5:

Seems a lot of stations have Mandatory Metallica. On 103.3 the Edge, it's weekdays at 10 with a pair of Metallica songs.

Also, I was in Atlanta and heard their station Project 96.1, which was terrible. Though it followed a similar format to the Edge, it overplayed old songs like nuts, in fact, I heard Godsmack's Speak twice in one day in 2008...that song was 2006...

i live near rocco g and we basicaly have the same stations. and i agree, Z103.5 plays the worst music out there. they say they got the best variety, but all they play is hip hop and pop. if they do play rock, its pop rock like gym class heros and panic at the disco.

y108, q107 and 102.1 the edge are all great radio stations

y108 plays every type of rock! they play everything from the beatles to the white stripes to the foo fighters to the who. its an awesome station.

q107 plays only classic rock. mostly stuff from the 70's. but sometimes they play really good modern bands like the foo's, but they rarely do. remember that canadian classic rock star kim mitchelle? well, he works there as a dj full time.

and my fav radio station is 102.1 the edge. apparantly they're the third most listend radio station in the world. they definitely are a very influential radio station. they've launched careers of different bands such as blue october, hostage life, mobile, silversun pickups, USS, attack in black(my fav band, i actually liked them before the edge started playing them) just by playing them. and the drummer from goldfinger works there as a dj. oh, and they play mostly modern alternative rock songs and songs from the 90's, and no commercialized music. sometimes they play older stuff, but not thay often. may i also say the edge has the most hillarious morning show i've ever heard!! if you don't live near toronto, listen to the morning show online! it runs from 5:30-9:30 am eastern standard time. the lead singer from billy talent also used to work at the edge, not as a dj though, but as an intern.

they also play this segment called the ongoing history of new music, its all about the history of music and how music has changed since the beggining of rock. definitely check out the online transcripts if your into the history of music...i swear to god, its really interesting!

and to those who say there are no good radio stations, you obviously haven't looked beyond those top 40 radio stations...

KROQ-FM--106.7 FM--Slogan: "The World Famous K-Rock"--Format: Modern Rock It's not a bad mainstream radio station. It plays generally less known, but still mainstream artists (usually the okay ones or the betters ones), with an occasional touch at some punk rock, grunge, and hard rock from the 70's, 80's, and 90's (one day, I was thinking if there was a punk rock station on the radio, and when the car turned on, they were playing "Blitzkrieg Bop" by the Ramones!) like the Ramones, Guns N' Roses, and Nirvana respectively. Recent Bands: Foo Fighters Smashing Pumpkins Linkin Park Muse Plain White T's Velvet Revolver Smashing Pumpkins Rise Against Red Jumpsuit Apparatus Kid Rock Korn Tool Paramore Social Distortion Incubus etc. So some good bands, mostly okay bands, and a couple bad bands. It's not a bad station, but I don't listen to it often since all the bands I like don't come out much. The classic rock one is: KRTH--101.1 FM--Slogan: "The Greatest Hits on Earth"--Format: Oldies/Classic Rock This station is the true epitome of classic rock. Forget metal and hard rock; it's rarely played on there. The station only airs 60's and 70's music. No Led Zeppelin, or even Cream, unless on special countdowns, which really tears me apart, but it still has some pretty nice bands on there. It's most slow rock and R&B, with an occasional funk/rock and pop hit. Acts I like on there: The Beatles The Beach Boys Earth, Wind, and Fire The Rolling Stones Stevie Wonder Aretha Franklin Those are among the more notable ones.

Q101 in Chicago. It's an alternative / rock station.

The artists they play the most are Metallica, Pearl Jam, Sublime, Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Disturbed, Rage Against the Machine.

They play a lot of 90's alternative, and some from the 00's (the station was created only 15 years ago).

Q101 has a morning show (the Morning Fix), an afternoon show with Electra (named best DJ in Chicago), and then Sherman and Tingle come on (they do prank phone calls), and then finally the Mannos (they host a new music program every night at eleven).

And every Sunday, there is an hour of new music from up and coming local Chicago bands.

    I wrote a lot, ha.

I listen to WAAF in Boston Massachusetts. In the morning I listen to The Hillman Morning Show. It's a really funny morning show. And they have other cool people who do the radio throughout the day. They play some new rock songs but they mostly play a lot of older rock. They play a lot of black sabbath, led zeppelin, and van halen. They used to have a radio show at night that played metal like pantera but for some reason they took it off the radio. Heres a link to the station website: http://waaf.com/

Edit: The radio station i listen to has mandatory metallica too.

A couple stations are good but most of them play the same thing. 99.9 plays mainly 60's and 70's music but lately they ahve made changes and are playing some crap from the 80's. It's mainly pop music but they play the Beatles all the time.

Other one is 89.7 the River, mostly crappy generic rock bands but they play local music and a lot of underground music on Sundays. Not to mention on Fridays, they play techno music for 3 hours.

Another one I like Z 9.23, it's all classic and modern rock but mainly classic rock.

The rest is mixture of country, christian radio, and really bad disney music.

I live in Nebraska, not a lot of variety.

  • I live in New Jersey.

I mostly listen to 101.9 RXP which is a mixture of classic rock, alternative rock (aka-grunge) and current indie rock.

I also listen to 103.3 which is the Princeton University station. They play some stuff that is really out there, but some of the DJs play some decent stuff that is listenable.

    Thats pretty much it!
