Your so funny....thanks needed the laugh today
and, yes they have jockeys, and the little tiny jocks always go from horse to horse and talks to them to see which one will win the race, and if the other horses do not like that horse, then they get the horse flys and jockeys to distract it, so it wont win.....that's how I lose all my money at the track, ha ha
and the jockeys wear little teeny tiny suits, so when the race is over they are allowed along with their horsefly's to the winners circle to sting the owners of the horse and she can swat them with her hat, for real, this happened at Louisiana Downs last year, a lady took off her hat and was going nuts trying to get them away from her and their horse.
it was a really funny site to see..

Yes. There is a breed of ant that teams up with horse flies. They come in various colors and were the inspiration for the silks that jockeys wear. The ants are the actual biters.

No, horseflies do not wear jockeys. They wear bikinis instead.

I think the ones around here do. I also think they have crash hats or are some kind of mutated super-bug as they don't DIE.
I am living on antihistamines because I'm allergic to them but they absolutely love me and seek me out like guided missiles. I have been bitten through clothes while riding - they bug the horse but they bite me.
Just my luck.

horseflies are bugs, are they not?
alot of these people are being rude, yahoo answers is for people to ask questions and get answers not to be ridiculed.. ignore them.

Jockeys no
Boxes no
Briefs no
I believe they go Au naturale.
That way they gain speed and have less wind resistance.

They must!!
Have you ever seen them zero in and nothing distracts them?? It's a race to the finish...
Whether you or the horse can swat them before they bite...
I think they have blinders on too. Once they have zeroed in on you or your horse...they develop tunnel vision and can see nothing except your horse. No amount of swatting and shooing will deter them. Unless of course...you make direct contact and they fall down. Then you have to be quick and stomp on them!

Dont know about that, but last year, I shot 7 horse flys that tried to carry off my horses! Then they dropped something, it was a bottle of bronco.
