It's possible you have a deviated septum. I have a similar problem. However, both are congested, but one is worse than the other. Have you had any type of trauma to your face whatsoever?

Not to alarm you or anything, but I'd look at getting it examined. My current breathing problem started out with a basketball to the face, which caused a severe nose bleed. I can only presume that it caused a deviated septum. Almost eight years later, and having my septum corrected and my tonsils and adenoids removed, I am no better off--it is now a psychosomatic breathing problem (mental, not physical) which is extremely frustrating, because there is really no cure that I know of or doctors know of. I'm not sure how it happened, but it had to have started off with the physical problem first with the basketball to the face. That's a bit more info than you needed, but I would look at getting it looked at.

I suffer from the same issue. I have found that massaging the sinus cavity points on my face while applying pressure to the opposite ear (lying on on the opposite side of the clogged side. Kinda looks like watching tv on the floor). The point that works best for me is the soft tissue above the eye near the the middle of my brow. You can tell if it's the right spot because you will feel your sinuses moving whenever you massage the area in a circular motion. I find doing this for 3 to 5 minutes will usually do the trick. If not, I will get out of bed and blow my nose hard and then crawl back into bed and try again. That usually does the trick. I too use nasal spray but try to avoid it because it can exacerbate the problem in following nights. Good luck and you are not the only one that suffers from this!

I have a similar problem. One side of my nose is clear and i can breathe good when the other is blocked. The the next day it switches. so its like this.

    Yesterday: left clear, right blocked.

    Today: right clear, left blocked.

I tried to use stuff for both to be clear but nothing worked. So remember your not the only one.

I had the same problem too. I don't like to spit it out of my mouth, so I just wait for one side to clear up a bit enough to blow it out. When the right side is blocked, I lay my head on the left side so that mucus can travel its way to the left. I hope this will help you. That works for me sometimes.

The best way would probably be a HUMIDIFIER. I don't have one, but I would like to try it out if it happened to me again.

Yes. I had to have sinus surgery to increase the size of my sinus canals to allow drainage. If you have had this for years I would recommend seeing and ENT doc.

But you could try taking a couple benadryl's each night at bedtime. Allergy medication is also great for sinus blockage. I prefer Allegra, but you could always try Clartin over the counter.

    I hope that helps.

Yeah, happens to me too sometimes on the left sometimes on the right. But I think you have allergies, well if you do try eating less sugar, actually don't eat anything sugared, on if it's low, I know a really professional doctor that does her own testing, and she told me to eat less sweet, I forgot why, and know I don't have that problem anymore. Hoped this answer helped.
