Why do some people think that animals can't be gay?

For some people, if they ain't seen it themselves, then they simply refuse to believe it.

Once, in this forum, I posted a number of links to video clips, National Geographic, newspaper articles, journal articles, etc., all of them providing ample evidence that homosexuality occurs in other animals.

Do you know what happened?

I got a private Email from someone who basically asked me, "Do you believe everything you read? Have you ever personally seen animals in homosexual acts?"

Well, luckily, I was able to respond to him: "Actually, yes. I grew up on a farm and ranch back in the 1940's, 50's and 60's. We had thousands of cattle, horses, chickens, dogs, cats, and ducks. And I witnessed plenty of homosexuality in the animals, even including cross-species homosexuality between a female dog and a female chicken!!!"

So if people are going to reject basic science investigation and reports, then I guess there will be no way to convince them.

I heard somewhere of a study done where a gene was altered in fruit flies which caused the males to begin mating (or attempting to mate depending on your definition of mating) with other males.

Of course, I'm under the impression you are born gay or straight or whatever your sexual preference may be so perhaps I can't answer this question the way you would like.

Because if they admit to themselves that animals can be gay then they have to rethink the issue of homosexuality. Homophobes don't wanna do that. They're too afraid to face reality.

I think animals can be gay. I have a pitbull that is in love with my moms mutt, and they are both boys, but he wants nothing to do with any of the female dogs. Its hard for people to accept it for animals, because they are still having a hard time accepting it for humans....

There are over 300 species of animals in nature that have homosexual 'lovin'. Some people are just scared of how things really are and live in a bubble.

I don't know, because my bunny and my sister's bunnies would hump all the time, and they were both girls. They would basically alternate between who was on top. Mine was very timid and would in every non-sexual way just submit to my sister's, but she would climb up on top just as frequently.

It freaked my very Christian relatives out. They were certain one of them had to be male.

homosexuality is a fact of nature... and i have seen gay animals before, these are the same people who believe gay is a choice

Because they're ignorant, either because they refuse to learn the facts or because they like to pretend they don't exist after they've been exposed to them . If they deny homosexuality exists in nature it makes their claim that "it's unnatural" stronger, and their ability to be bigots easier.

I'm not aware of anybody that doesn't realize this...I guess they're waiting for male dogs to become hairdressers or interior decorators.

Its not that I dont believe that they can be gay. Its just Ive never heard of it before.But I dont really think it matters to them if their partner is the same sex or not. What ever floats their boat. 8D
