What evolutionary purpose does having large breasts serve?

I have very large ones (I'm not fat), and I don't see how they serve any purpose:

1. You don't need big ones to breast feed

2. They slow you down when you need to run

3. They distract men when they're trying to do their work

4. Other women ostracize you for it

Can anyone answer this question? If you don't believe in evolution, then why do you think god gave some women big ones?

Men are more attracted to women with large breasts because it makes them look more 'womanly.' Same with guys with huge cock: they're more 'manly.'

The whole reason evolution works is that there is constant and inevitable variation as a result of genetic mutations and errors of copying. This means there will always be big breasts and small breasts for no reason other than the fact that reproduction could never be a 100% error-free process, so the gene pool is full of different breast-building genes which build different sizes and shapes of breasts. This variation is the raw material of natural selection, i.e. evolution.

    Here's one theory on it:

"Until very recently, it was a mystery to evolutionary psychology why men prefer women with large breasts, since the size of a woman’s breasts has no relationship to her ability to lactate. But Harvard anthropologist Frank Marlowe contends that larger, and hence heavier, breasts sag more conspicuously with age than do smaller breasts. Thus they make it easier for men to judge a woman’s age (and her reproductive value) by sight—suggesting why men find women with large breasts more attractive."

Other women would likely ostracize you for it as they consider you competition for the men they want. Unless they're lesbians like I am.

Large breasts, and wide hips, are both indicative of being healthy, well fed, and well able to bear children. All highly favorable traits from a survival and reproductive stand point.

The reasons you list are culturally based for the most part, and have no bearing on evolution. So yes, it is evolution for the people who are saying it isn't.

geez! who would ostracize you for having big breasts? that is so mean. Most men arn't distracted by women having big breasts. you may want to stay away from the ones that are.

    1. Oh no? They certainly DO swell at lactation. Men want their kids to be well fed.

    2. Not really. Your self-conscious embarassment is what's slowing you down.

    3. Men used to hunt (long distance business trips). Motivation.

    4. I don't.

It's not evolution.. It's just how your body was grown, usually from Genetics. Everybody's body develops differently, you couldn't say god did that either.

They are a sexual attraction, sending a signal you are healthy and have good genes. That's the cold biological answer.

Wow, I can't even begin to sum up how misplaced your words are. That has absolutely nothing to do with evolution.

Besides, there is no such thing as evolution, just elimination.
