External Hard Drive Help?

I was wondering if there is a way to combine my C drive on my desktop computer with my 320 GB External Hard Drive. Need to speed up my computer. If not tell me how I can speed my computer up with the external hard drive.

External hard drive is like a really big USB. I don't think you can join them together.

But you should move all your documents like music, pics etc.. to your external hdd.

I would be able to help you better if you told me the size (in GB) of your internal hard disk as well as the number of partitions (C,D,E etc...)

Anyway, having an external one won't significantly speed up your computer. The best thing you can do is:

    1) Shift all documents/images/videos from your 'MY documents' folder to the external hard disk.

    2) Defragment the C drive using Windows Defragmenter.

When you reduce the files in the C drive, the computer finds the OS more quickly upon boot-up.

When you defragment, the OS files will be arranged better on the hard disk so that when you boot windows, the OS is found quickly.

Personally, what I always do is install the OS on C drive and install ALL other software on D Drive. I place documents in my documents but all videos/pics in a different drive. Keep your C drive as free as possible and you will have a fairly fast system. Remember to defragment at least every 3-4 months.

Umm, hate to break it to you but an external hard drive will not make your compuer faster no matter what you do with it, it will just give you more storage space. For more speed you need better RAM cards or a faster processor.

that is a BIG external hard drive, i have a 50gb one that is just simply a USB cable connect, and as long as its plugged in, it appears next to my C drive. its essentially just a giant flash drive. as for speeding up your computer, more hard drive space wont neccessarily do that, you need RAM or a better gfx card depending on what your doing.

no but you can store things on it to take the load off of the c drive

move all pics, music, movies onto it instead of loading them all onto the c drive
