Presently all remotes for consumer entertainment equipment use infrared light. Which means you must have line-of-sight to both the DVD player and the TV box. Infrared repeaters are available . There are two parts, the pickup/transmitter which will receive the light source from your remote and the receiver which is mounted in front of the TV box in your closet and projects the infrared signal to the box. The two parts communicate via radio waves. You will find them available locally from TV shops that do home theater installations or from E-bay or several other on-line sources.

If it's a LCD TV check the refresh rate, typically it is 60 hz. The higher end LCD's have a 120 hz refresh rate and no lag. Look into the SONY XBR series TV's we bought one for the Giants Dallas playoff game and the picture is phenomenal even under the fastest of sports. Thats the problem with the lower end lcd's they do offer a good picture as long as the pic doesnt have to move.
