Sadly, there is indeed a difference. If there were no difference, Bud would win in terms of sales every day.
Though Heineken only wins because of individual taste. The pale bits of it can attract quite the crowd. Americans are not used to that style of beverage, and it is rather arresting.
There are some wonderful styles that will locally knock your socks off, far more than even Heineken can. Sure, I will admit it is something quite different. This stuff, however, will make you question your faith.
From the passion of the brewer right to the hops jumping on your tongue, you'll feel the specialty of these brews. The thing is, they are all around us. I have a fine micro brew within 30 miles of me, and I did back home too. You can find breweries that care about style near you as much as anywhere. Go explore them, and you will certainly not regret it.
Go try a beautiful IPA, and whatever special ales and porters they have. You cannot but enjoy the quality of their time. Horizons are never wider than when you sit on the lotus petals of a master, especially a brewmaster. Go seek such a skilled person, and learn as much as you can.

Yes, although Heineken is often referred to as "Eurobud". Two things. Heineken, sold in green bottles, is often "skunked", due to a chemical reaction with flourescent lighting. Two... If you ever get the chance to try it on tap in Holland, it's a wonderful beer. But even over here, it has more body, and more hops, than Bud.
If you're not happy with Bud, you might try some other craft lagers...Sam Adams, New Belgium's Blue Paddle, etc. These can show you what a craft beer can taste like. Again, these will be fuller bodied, and more flavorable than Bud.

There are many good beers made in the US. New Belgium Brewery, which is in Fort Collins makes some great beers like Fat Tire and Sunshine Wheat. Also Dogfish Head Brewery makes some great beers, as well as Sierra Nevada Brewery.
