Should I delete Windows Defender?

My computer usually hovers between 4-10% of CPU usage. However, there are times when there are just crazy delays when I'm trying to switch windows from one program to another. It can even take several seconds to minimize a window so that switch from one program to another. Even deleting emails has become a chore that can take several seconds.

I have an Intel Centrino Duo running at 1.66 GHz and with 2 gigs of RAM on an HP laptop.

My antivirus software is all up to date with regular scans, I've run Ad Aware and I have Windows Defender running in the background. I can't think of anything else that might be causing it to run so slow at times.

I sometimes use IE7 or Firefox 3. I also have SP3 for Windows XP.

Yeah, there's no need to uninstall, just disable the automatic scanning, but it's probably not the cause of the slow computer. When my Windows Defender is running along with McAfee, my CPU usage is only 15% with 49% memory usage of 1 GB. I have Vista Home Premium on a laptop. I'm guessing it might be your antivirus, mostly if you use BitDefender. But to disable Windows Defender, open it up, go to Tools, then Options, uncheck "Automatically Scan Computer" and click "Save." That should do it, just keep Windows Defender in case you need it sometimes.

Your computer seems to be top notch. Id suggest you unistall wiindows defender and install a less demanding antivirus like Nod32. It is still ranked top 10 best antivirus softwares it is super light and crazy effective.

    No need to un-install.

Simply turn-off Defender's real-time monitoring and use it as an on-demand scanner only.
