I have poison ivy on my eyelids, can it damage my eyes?

So I have poison ivy on my eyelids (and all over my hands and arms)and it is making them itch, swell, and sag down over my eyes. Can the poison get into my eyes and cause eye damage?

I don't think so. I think the tears protect your eyes. I've heard of many people getting it around their eyes (on two occasions my eye swelled shut from it) but I've never heard of it affecting the eye itself. If it's widespread or gets around your eyes or on your genitals you should go to the doctor. They will give you a corticosteroid either by shot or in pill form. This will dramatically reduce the itching, burning and swelling.

First of all think about whether or not poison ivy is in bloom in your area this time of year. If so, then it would most likely be on more places of his body than just his eye. It could be a sty. I had a sty in my eyes once when I was seven and nearly my whole eye swelled shut! It can be very painful and slightly itchy as well. The trouble is, there isn't much you can do for a sty. There are some eye salves to alleviate the discomfort, but otherwise you just have to wait for it to go. If you are convinced it is poison ivy, take him to the doctor. I just looked up on a website where a lady said her husband got it in his eyes and the doctor prescribed a steroid eye-drop. (No pictures available)

This happened to my brother and it got in his eyes and he had to go on steroids to get them to go away! I wouldn't delay in getting it treated. Poison ivy is very common so the doctor will know exactly what you need! But definetely get it checked out because if it get's in your eye, it could cause a bad infection.
