I don't think that people use gender reassignment surgery as an excuse to be with people of the same sex- gender is entirely mental, and sometimes, people's physical sex doesn't match up with their gender identity. It has nothing to do with their sexuality, and sexuality has nothing to do with gender identity.

I don't think they're "excusing" anything. It's just the way some people are wired, and it's not like they're hurting anyone.
