Is it a universal fact that anyone who starts a sentence with "I'm not racist, but..." is in fact racist?

Yes, because the word "but" always contradicts what comes before it.

There was an interesting study done that basically shows that EVERYONE is racist to some point (even if it isn't by much). Regardless, I'd have to answer yes to your question, because whenever they throw in the word "but" they are going to add something that is racist. Hence, a racist remark would make them racist period or they wouldn't have been thinking in those terms to begin with.

Yeah, usually the ones who really "confirms" to other people how not racist they are, are the ones that are racist. They always say "I'm not a racist and I can live with all different people, no matter what race they are"

When the fact is these people are the most racists ones.

Not all though act like that, but why do you wanna say to the world that you're not a racist person? do they wanna obtain some gold medal by stating that to all people?

Being a person who isn't racist is just to accept people as they are and not saying "I'm not racist".

Just by saying those words doesn't mean they are open minded. It's their act to other races that counts. Not some "badge", "Banner" saying how not racist they are.

No. There is a difference between generalizations and racism. I have heard people say stupid things like "im not trying to be racist but are all blonds....." That has nothing to do with a race! I t all depends on the context. Either way racism, prejudice's, generalizations are lame.

Could be true, or maybe the person is simply trying to say that someone of a different culture has offended them, Could mean more than one thing its better to let the person finish what they are trying to say before you judge them a racist. Hope that helps I WISH PEACE TO ALL HUMANS.

I have said this before. I feel that I am racist only when certain Caribbean People say they are from my country, another Caribbean Island, that I won't mention the name, but my compatriots will know. The majority of this people are embarrassed of their country and they fool themselves. Because i can tell them for their look and their accent.I don't like liars!!!.

Lol yes. Giving a disclaimer at the start of any sentence is always the speaker's attempt to get across whatever message he/she wants to say without seeming like a bad person.

Well, " I'm not a racist but.." is ALWAYS followed by a racist/ stereotypical comment.

but that does not necessarily make them a racist.

Not really. They're just going to say something that they don't want people to be offended by after saying "I'm not racist"

    Not really.

I am white, my husband is black and sometimes all he talks about is the white people do things or black people or whatever race he wants to talk about.

But for the most part people who are indeed racist will say that.

I hate racism but it is something that we have to deal with.

    It makes me sad.
