how can i stop my dog from 'biting' me when we are playing?

his teeth are sharp.

afterwards i get bitemarks & scratches. though not deep.

he had already completed his vaccine & 1 anti-rabies vaccine.

he is a choco labrador & he is 5months old.

or how can i sorta make his teeth less sharp or something....?

well, he's probably just playing right now. But it will develop into an aggresion problem if you don't do something about it.

It's great to play with him, and you shouldn't stop just because he's nipping you. You need to work through it, and take the time to teach him that he shouldn't do that.

I've been doing this with my Cocker Spaniel puppy, and it seems to work very well.... Every time he nips or bites you, then grab ahold of his mouth, and gently but firmly hold it shut, and say "no!". or "no biting!!". hold it shut for about 2 seconds, and then let go. You may have to do it several hundred times before he gets the picture, but trust me, it will pay off.

Good luck and have a lot of patience!!!!

Don't play games that encourage biting such as tug of war. Play games like fetch or frisbee, and teach him the command "drop" or "leave it". Get him into a puppy class...this strengthens the bond between human and dog, and teaches you skills to teach your dog new things.

He is just a baby and playing rough. Next time you are playing and he bites you, stand up - stop playing - and tell him "NO BITE" in a firm voice. Then don't play with him until he calms down. Keep doing this until he gets it. If he is stubborn and doesn't get it, then when he bites you - you can stand up and tell him "no bite" and put him in time out (in his kennel if he is crate trained) until he calms down. Eventually he will understand that you will not play if he is rough and he will stop when you tell him no bite.

My dog does the same thing, with me when we are playing you would want to scold them from biting you, but let him know that you love him by caressing him. Puppies learn quickly.

have you ever watched two dogs play together?

they always use their mouths. my dogs do to.

they dont have hands so really all tehy can use are their teeth.

try not rough housing with your dog when you play because thats how they play with their teeth.

    try fetch or keep away.

    good luck

stop playing with him, and do whatever form of discipline you normally do. you have a high energy dog that plays with you the way it plays with its dog friends so let the dog know that people dont play that way.

I usually hold my dogs tounge down inside his mouth or hold his mouth close and tell him no biting... He has learned now and doesnt bite anymore.

NEVER HIT YOUR DOG as has been recommended by others...
