Obama backs away from McCain's debate challenge. Hmm...
Is Obama's reversal on town hall debates part of a play-it-safe strategy or Obama's fear that McCain will expose Obama's vulnerability?

Obama wouldn't know what to say to McCain's answers without a teleprompter. So yes he is afraid of being exposed.

Here's a link to the article:

Here's an excerpt:
"Democratic candidate Barack Obama on Saturday backed away from rival John McCain's challenge for a series of joint appearances, agreeing only to the standard three debates in the fall.
In May, when a McCain adviser proposed a series of pre-convention appearances at town hall meetings, Obama said, "I think that's a great idea." In summer stumping on the campaign trail, McCain has often noted that Obama had not followed through and joined him in any events.
Obama's REVERSAL (caps/emphasis mine) on town hall debates is part of a play-it-safe strategy he's adopted since claiming the nomination and grabbing a lead in national polls."
Whether Obama supporters want to believe it or not, it's becoming increasingly apparent to objective, intelligent voters that Obama is terrified of real questions! He is well known for restricting questions from the press and his campaign tightly controls the information which they spoon feed to the press. There was a news article while Obama was in the middle of his world tour that some members of the press were frustrated because of the limited information and the strict control on news & info from his campaign.
For anyone with a brain this should be a huge red flag!
@Kyle D: What "broken promise of a clean campaign"?!? Obama tried to play the race card as he did with the Clintons, first denied doing it, then reluctantly admitted it (OK...ummmm...yes, I was referring to my race in THAT comment), McCain called him on it and now Obama and his campaign are back-pedaling big time! Obama's not so subtle attempt to paint his opponent as a racist (and thereby bully & "guilt" his way into the White House) was rightfully challenged by the McCain camp. Obama attempted to do the same thing with the Clintons and it worked for him; however, Obama knows he's not dealing with the Clintons (and their need to not alienate the DNC party leadership) now. Could that be part of why he has adopted a "play it safe" strategy now that he is the Dem. nominee?

If Obama has anyone except a committed supporter like the main stream media ask him real questions he'll fold like the fraud he is. He said no to all Town Hall meetings, won't agree to any debates beyond the required 3 and I'm sure he'll require and the main stream media will gladly give him the softball pro-socialist questions in advance. Just look at any time there are reporters. Obama runs away and McCain stays, answers all questions and asks if there are any other questions. Obama can't speak off the cuff because he can't voice his real views because no one will vote for what he really belives in.

McCain will trounce him in any debate. It's sad that a national party candidate will not reveal himself to the public. All the rhetoric but no substance. I realize people go watch an Obama rally for the free beer and concerts but why would anyone consider voting for someone with less than 10 years of experience in public office. That’s not to mention his far left views and unscrupulous ties to radical terrorists...

It really makes me what it is that he's afraid of. I just don't trust a candidate who is so obviously afraid of open debate. I think both of your given reasons are likely probabilities.

bama can't think fast enough to answer questions without help. When they finally do get together for a debate. All his writers will have an answer writen for every possible answer and will come up on his teleprompter.

The Washington Post reported that in the closed meeting Tuesday evening, Obama talked about his triumphant visit to Europe and declared, "I have become a symbol of the possibility of America returning to our best traditions."

Barry Hussein Obama is in fear of McCain. Obama is afraid to debate McCain because he won't be able to bring his teleprompter.
Vote McCain and send JUNIOR back to Chicago

McCain could spend the whole debate explaining his resume and that would be the end of the debate.....Barry would lose.........because after all the debate is just one giant job interview for the most powerful job in the world.

Fear of exposure. He knows that if he is put under the spotlight too often while in the company of McCain, he will be left standing there like the Emperor who has no clothes.
