IS IT POSSlBLE FOR AN ATHEIST ....

To believe in a soul mate? Is it possible for an atheist to love someone so much that it just feels like they are on the earth for one another and no one else? I don't mean just a perfect match I mean something more than that, if it makes sense?

Or does this mean that I am going to have to be another religion? I have never felt that soul mates existed until a couple of months ago, To believe in a soul mate can I still be atheist?

I think anyone is capable of having a soul mate no matter what religion they are in. I believe that religion clouds the judgement of a lot of relationships (arranged marriages, same sex marriages, people against marriages from different religions, and people against marriages of different races) I believe if you can't be free to find love you will be miserable with what is handed to you. No one knows your likes or dislikes better than you.

Can you imagine an arranged marriage? The parents hagle over live stock when the 2 that are to be married are more interested in things like does he leave the bathroom door open when he goes to the bathroom or how great is he in the sack. Will my children have health problems that are heriditary from his side of the family (the grandma doesn't look so great) I hope this made you feel a little better.

One has nothing to do with the other.

I don't personally believe in the 'soul mate' concept but I do believe in romantic love and I am the most ungodly Atheist on the block.

Some people (of they are lucky) experience a crazy chemical connection with another. Its a wonderful, whacky feeling (which I was lucky enough to experience). I think this might be the basis for the "soul mate" theory.

Good luck! Stop worrying so much.

No atheists can believe whatever the Hell they want. And yes, there can be such a thing as a soul mate but that doesn't mean it has anything to do with souls or spirits. It's just a name for two people who are a lot alike and are deeply in love.

Why not? Soul mates aren't gods, as far as I know.

I don't personally believe in souls, but they aren't gods either.

Religion doesn't have a monopoly on love and neither does belief.

Love pwns religion and belief any day of the week.

Edit: And the soul mate thing? It just means people that match up really well, romatically speaking.

Souls, and soul mates are not deities. You can be an atheist (that is, lack belief in the gods) and believe in both.

religion is not love and soul mate is just a term meaning that well you ment for eachother.

    Yes, it is completely possible.

My boyfriend and I are sure we are "soul mates," neither one of us can even fathom the idea of being without each other.

Just because you're atheist, It dosent mean that you dont believe in anything.

Love has nothing at all to do with religion.

They are two completely opposite subjects.

"I mean something more than that, if it makes sense?"

not really, can you be a little less vague?

in any case there is no central authority that's going to revoke your atheist membership... if you find that you suddenly believe in god, well that's up to you but it would make sense to stop calling yourself an atheist I think!
