PRO-CHOICERS: If an innocent unborn child doesn't deserve the right to live then how can you say that you do?

How can you say that you deserve to live but that a being as defenseless and innocent as an unborn child doesn't?

If unborn children don't deserve to live just because they haven't been given the opportunity to form into recognizable forms of life yet then should all unborn children be aborted from here on out because they aren't recognizable as human beings at the spit second they're conceived?

Update:

Ben - Women have the right to keep their legs shut, and so do men, that's it. If they choose not to do so then that's their choice and they need to live with the natural consequences instead of taking the easy route.

Legally, it is because I an you have reached that point in our maturity that we can sustain life on our own without the use of life support and demonstrating some brain function. Surprise, that is pretty much they same standard they use to take someone off of life support these days.

Morally, I am not a killer so it comes down to a self protection motif. I don't want to die. I don't want to kill my children. One of the reasons for abortions is the health of the mother. Think Andrea Yates and killing her five children due to postpartum depression. Think of all the women who die in complicated deliveries. There comes a time when you have to decide who should live and who should die and I am alive. What is to say that my child will even survive infancy? It is a tough reality but many children die stilborn or in crib death or in a hundred different ways.

And last but not least, how do you know the child is innocent? Perhaps this child will be a serial killer, the Adolf Hitler, the next Genghis Khan. You don't know thatit is an innocent birth. Think about it.You know what kind of person i am. you have no idea what kind of person my child will be. I have not had the opportunity to teach the child right or wrong.

That's extremely harsh. And I don't think an unborn child should be killed... I agree 100% with anabifigolo EDIT: You claim that we are defying the child a basic human right, but by saying this - by forcing the birth of a baby by a woman - aren't you, technically infringing on this woman's rights? The right to have a choice. In many countries, you are required to have a reasonable reason in order to carry out with an abortion. Abortion isn't done without a thought, or just done because we couldn't care less for a child... It's done because sometimes, maybe in a minority - it has to be done. In a lot of cases, abortion is only carried out because the woman has been raped, because of financial or medical reasons. I'll give you an example extracted from what others have said. 1. A woman finds out she will die in the process of giving birth to a child unless she has an abortion. Further more, the child has a brain problem and will only live for minutes after the birth. So by not allowing this woman to have an abortion, you are saying you'd rather 2 lives be ended instead of one? How is this fair?

first question: because the "innocent child" is invading the uterus of a woman, increasing the chance that she hurts herself, places a burden since she needs to eat more and etc.... (although technically logical no i don't really believe that argument i just came up with that out of spite)

second question: according to the logical you are arguing against, no it doesn't mean all children should be aborted because even if they don't deserve to live the mother and father could want a child and so they are graced with life thanks to the mom and dad......

on a more serious note: I do not believe that abortion is moral or ethical at all and would prefer they never take place, HOWEVER, if a child is to be born into a world where the mother and father would neglect and hurt the child, where they would have to suffer for a good part or all of their lives (and by suffer I don't mean heart break, i mean poverty, malnurishment, crime) I'd rather the child had been aborted,

and NO i don't think the foster care route is much better. too many children in the system already

basically, i'm saying it is better not to live if all you have for to look forward to is pain (think euthanasia which i agree with or giving you fellow compartriot a nice clean headshot if he is fatally injured and is gauranteed to live the next 5 hours in excruciating pain)

i put some thought into this, responses are welcome

Theres nothing that says anything. There is no standard of morale.

There is nothing that makes killing wrong on the astral realm. There is however the instinct of self preservation. The only instinct humans naturally have which would make it wrong, but guess what! we are overly populated and at this point death could be what keeps us able to live. So death could possible be part of self preservation.

If the parents we're dumb enough to kill off the baby, then the probability of the kid mentally or physically having a bad life is probably high, so its probably a good thing.

Now i live by the standard of anarchism, no man has the right to govern over another man. The exception being a child to his parents, so I guess abortion is a deep personal choice... yes thats it, it is.

It also voids your belief to me, becuase you have no control. Society as a whole should preserve self betterment and keep each other out of each others business, when no one but a life, who's spirit we don't know if it exists or where it goes to is at stake.

No, I certainly am not saying that. I'm just saying I'm pro-choice because I feel people can make their own decisions about it. I'm pro-choice but I'm not anti-life either! You're right I really would like to see more of these women live with the responsibility and blessing of raising a child instead of rushing to get it aborted. But by being pro-choice I'm just saying that if they really feel that is the right thing to do then they should do it because it's their choice. I won't judge them for it.

It's the difference between the potential for life and life. If by your standards the potential for life (ie zygote conceived child) is as valuable or sacred as a living human, than all women's periods periods would be murder and also any sex without conception, and masturbation for men. A fetus with no brain or nervous system cannot feel, it cannot think. This is as alive as a plant and most people don't mind killing them. I don't necessarily agree with abortion (or at least its frequency) but there's an argument for you.

It's easy for people already here to talk about a woman's right to choose but we were all the same at one point and no one has any right to be able to say or choose who should be born and who shouldn't.

WEAK! I'm sure if you were capable of having an accident grow inside you for 9 months then be forced to take care of it for at least 18 years then you'd rethink your views on abortion. Or maybe you wouldn't. Who cares?
