My microwave is on the blink, any ideas pls?

I put my food in, press high, press timer, press start. The light is on, the turntable rotates, it stops at the correct time. BUT there is NO heat, please help before I trash it.

Update:

Many thanks for all your answers. 11 years ago it cost just over £200 so a replacement would probably cost at least £300. Top of the range stuff. It does (DID) everything :>(

I think you will find exactly the opposite. Today you will be able to buy one that does all that and has the same power for less than 100 in most domestic appliance stores.

Don't try to fix the old one. it can be dangerous to play with magnetrons.

    I agree with Peter L

You'll be amazed when you see just what £100 will get you in the world of electronics & appliances.... I was!!!

I had a similar situation - my old microwave was about 17 years old when it suddenly gave up - and I'm all for repairing stuff wherever possible. But even an 11-year old microwave has had a good innings - especially if you use it as much as your question implies..... and the sad fact is - things are just not built to last any more

(I know that makes me sound a LOT older than I am - but its true)

Get yourself a new one - it'll be cheaper than repair and will probably be far more efficient than the old one

And you'll soon grow to love it just as much.... ;-)

Wolfbag is right: A new microwave would cost you less. You'll want to get rid of the one you have before it makes the wiring go ka-blooey (like an old microwave tried to do to me when it died).

Buy a new one. Microwave's aren't that expensive if you just want it to do basic stuff. If food isn't cooked properly, especially meat, it's not a good idea to eat it, you could get food poisoning.

Get rid of it you cant play around with them if it is not heating food to right temp. it is not safe
