Is this what most people (if not everyone) is looking for?

"Many today are hungering for an authentic spirituality that is intellectually honest and at home in a scientific era. They are searching for a new wisdom to live by, one that is scientifically sophisticated, technologically advanced, morally just, ecologically sustainable, and spiritually alive."

-- UCC's pastoral letter (July 2008)

I understand that some atheists out there, and even non-atheists, feel that religion is stiff and out dated, even immoral at times. But if you had something like that's described above, would you follow it if it fit into your moral bounds?

Update:

I'm talking more about spirituality than religion, btw (since this text talks about spirituality). The text was taken from a pastor's letter of the United Church of Christ, urging churches to be more tolerant of changes, which happen and are natural. Anything that refuses to adapt will eventually die out.

I would be interested if there was no bullshit factor. things like god being only good, his being honest about creating the universe for me are all part of the bullshit factor.

Difficult to say. It would be very nice to be able to 'pick' a religion that I liked the sound of and follow it, and I sometimes envy those who have faith, as they have something to believe in and some sort of reference point for moral/ethical/spiritual problems.

The closest I have come to this is by studying different religions and basing my moral foundation on beliefs that I consider to be - well - 'moral'. I found something in Wicca that I love - "An it harm none, do what you will", and I made a conscious decision to try to live by this rule. When I do things, I try to consider whether or not anyone will be hurt by what I do. It doesn't give me any sense of spirituality, though, and it doesn't mean that I 'believe' in anything else within Wicca. It's simply a moral code that I decided to commit to, that happened to be found within a religious context.

You can't choose what to believe in - you either believe or you don't.

I'm not looking for anyone or anything to follow. I never have, and I doubt that I ever will.

No I believe that the bible is true and what ever religion you come up with there will be someone who disagree and finds fault with it. People are people and want only what they want to be comfortable with. They want their own God with their own rules. A God who is absent in their lives just in their minds.

Religious belief...a belief in magical sky fairies, is a form of mental illness and should be treated as such.
