Would you vote for an Islamic president?

Obviously Obama isn't Muslim, but would it matter if he was? Does religion really play that much of a role in the secular position of President?

For me to support a Muslim, it would have to be someone whose history has shown them to be actively opposing Islamic extremism and someone who has respect for Israel's soveignty.

Despite the fact that it is not politically current to admit it, religion does matter and for those who say it doesn't matter to them, are liars.

The fact is, religion (or the lack of) plays an important part in the values and morals of an individual. That is a fact of life.

I have voted in the past for other presidents who were some religion. I'm not religious. So, why wouldn't I vote for an Islamic president? I don't hold any unfounded stereotypes like all muslims are extremists, etc. I have enough faith in the US constitution and its current functioning to believe that an Islamic president couldn't or wouldn't override the First Amendment, or do any other religiously inspired harm. Sure, there's some things such a president could do in their favor. Perhaps a muslim president would order all troops and bases out of the middle east--that might end terrorism. This question you ask may even be a good proposition.

i does no longer vote for somebody of the religion whose people around the globe are against freedom of religion, females's rights, and gays. The very essence of Islam is anti-American so why could i prefer to go with that guy or woman to usa of america's maximum and maximum excellent workplace? they are no longer the comparable God btw. Islam's god is the Christian devil. take a inspect the e book "The Islamic Anti-Christ" it supplies a non-biased part by utilising part assessment of the two. The Islamic "savior" and the Christian devil. together as i do no longer consider Mormonism a minimum of they are Christian at heart and are not a hateful people such because of the fact the democratic people who declare to be a tolerant and all-welcoming people... oh i assume this is obtainable which you compromise with each thing they do.

Religion would not matter in any other country in the world, but much of America is obviously obsessed with religion, as the build up to this election has shown. To me it would not matter what religion the president was, or even if they were not religious. After years of christian presidents who have done a good job of messing up the country and the world, maybe a muslim president may actually do a better job? I would be happy to have a muslim president, or a sikh, jewish, buddhist or hindu one for that matter, as long as a) they didn't try to force their culture onto us, and b) they kept their religion out of politics - though i believe this should also be true of christian presidents. religion and politics should not mix.

I don't think it matters to most people when the chips are on the table. Fact is, most people in the world respect each other's faith. I know that's bad news to the right-wing extremists, but it's a fact. After all, if that weren't true, most of humanity would be dead by now.

This country was founded on the premise of freedom of religion but unfortunately it doesn't practice that premise. It seems that religion pays a major part in politics here in the USA. Bush knew that and capitalized on it when he pandered to the large Evangelical following who was largely responsible for his success in getting elected even though Bush is about as religious as Satan himself...

Forget it. I might try another answer later. Long story short: I won't vote for someone who is part of a faith glorifying hate and racism.

If he/she didn't bring up his/her religion every 5 minutes and claim it was a big part of their decision making, and make it an issue ... it wouldn't be an issue for me

and that goes for Christians and Catholics and all the rest

I would not vote for a muslim president, because if you are a true muslim your religion comes before your country. We need someone that can sperate his religious responabilities with his duty as commander and chief.

Personally for me, I would only vote for a person who is of the same faith or similar to myself.

I would never vote for an athiest, and I couldn't imagine having a president who must stop and pray five times a day. Islam is a way of life for true muslims and it would take more importance than the job.
