It depends on where you are and if that area uses an on-line service or not. You will need to check the city, township or county web site that collects the taxes. Look for the assessing department.
In our area, if they miss the deadline to pay the city or township, then the taxes roll over to the county. Once the taxes roll over to the county, you can not tell from the on line information if they paid the county the taxes or not. The site says something like "* taxes referred to the county - no further information available." You can always call the county to find out the status.

To the web site of the county they live in, if that county has put that information online. Not all locations have that information online.
