I got a phone call from a deceased family member? {Re-posted}

I already posted this in the 'Dream Interpretation' section, but I felt this was also a 'Religion and Spirituality' topic and would very much like to hear from a theist's and atheist's point-of-view.

Last night I had a dream (which I think in the dream I fell asleep and had another dream...sort of like a dream inside of another dream) and inside of this "2nd dream" I was sitting at a desk and my cell phone rang. I didn't recognize the number but I knew where it was coming from somewhere in south Jersey because of the area code.

When I picked it up it was static(ky) at first and then got clear, and it was my grandfather who had passed away last year. I was puzzled at first how he could be calling me having that he's deceased, then delighted to "hear" from him. He seemed to be his normal, joking self which was refreshing. Then at the end of the phone call before we hung up he said my name and got really serious. He made a long pause and said "Trust in Jesus".

Now, my grandfather was a very pious man and I'm not religious at all. So when I woke up from the "2nd dream" I was walking around my original dream wondering if what he was saying was to insure my spot in heaven and/or that Jesus is very well the Savior. I don't know.

So basically there are two things where I'm looking for some enlightenment about.

One: Did my grandfather really contact me in my dream's dream or was I just subconsciously thinking he would be on the other line? What does it mean either way?

And two: The whole Jesus thing. Was this truly a message from my grandfather? And even if it isn't, what does it all mean anyway? I'm not much of a believer so I don't know if in my dream I was just subconsciously thinking of how religious my grandfather was or if this is the real deal.

What are your opinions?

Nobody can explain your experience to you. Follow your heart. However, it looks like your grandfather is "worried " about your faith and wants you to be serious about it. Remember that your grandfather is dead only physically and he is living spiritually and he can see you.Anyway be happy that he is alive in spirit because that's the PROMISE we get for believing in JESUS.

I believe when we have dreams about deceased family members and being different places. That we really are speaking with them. It is hard to explain. Have you ever read any of Sylvia Browne's books? She explains it alot better than I can.

I think he did come to you in your dream. My mom passed away two years ago and I have never had a dream about her. So you are lucky. A few days after her death though I got the strangest "real" phone call, it even freaked out my 10 and 12 year old who both started crying.

It is very common for the dead to contact in our dreams, and for the phone to be a common method of this communication, because of what the phone symbolizes to us - a route to another place where you can't be.

It could have been just a dream, or it could have been a real communication- only you will know the truth of that.

As for the jesus thing, if it was something your grandfather would normally say, then either your subconscious filled it in, or he really did say it to you.

I believe that spirits have the power to try to communicate with us through our dreams. If it wants normal behavior for your grandpa, then I dont see why your subconscience would make him behave in that way. I think you should read up on it a little more.

Discover your physic type-Dillard (all about the spiritual world)

Or go to chapters under the Paraology section.

I dont think you are going to receive any satisfying answers. This sounds more like a personal discovery you are going to have to go through. Even if you do your research, and discover you dont infact believe in the spiritual world, and least you have discovered that for yourself.

I had a dream in which a gentle, spiritual man that it was pleasant to hang out with turned out to be an "angel of death" sort who killed terminally sick people. Dreams are wierd.

You probably dreamed of him because you missed him. If he was pious, you may have been used to hearing the same from him. The long pause sounds like the dreams I have in which I try to read a book and my brain has to random-word-generate what's in it.

I do believe that spirit can visit us in dreams

however from my own experience with spirit ... they usually give more of a universal message and suggest that religious beliefs is not important

I am sure many will disagree with me here

but only speaking from my own experiences

Your grandfather can't "insure your spot in Heaven", as you put it. Only you accepting Jesus for yourself can do that. As to the dream....in the dream state people are more open to the spiritual world. I believe your grandfather took this opportunity to deliver a message from the beyond.

It had nothing to do with the subconscious. It was a spiritual dream. God sent the dream to you to get your attention and to tell you to trust in Jesus. You don't have to be religious. You just have to trust in Jesus. He's in heaven now and he prayed for you before he died. He is still praying for you. He wants to see you in heaven.

first of all, God gave us dreams, so we can visit the other side, and keep in contact with our spirit guides and loved ones over there. Yes, you did talk to your grandfather, and yes, they do come to us in dreams, because when we are sleeping, our souls can leave and visit other places, and entities can visit us. when I was 16, my grandfather came and visited me. but I saw him while I was awake. he told me that he was with God, and that he will see me on the other side. Dont listen to the holy rollers, that tell you its imagination. Just like a world renouned spiriutal leader and mediums says, "imagination is the worst word in the human language", because people ignore the signs from God and the other side, and just think its imagination

Some people say dreams are just fragmented memories that piece together as the brain recharges in sleep. I'm guessing you had a good memory of your granddad, the memory that he was a Jebus freak, and some residual grief that surfaced in a contemporary setting (cell phone call).

Source(s): These things happen all the time.
